Nice deal! Too bad it's not SCSI, wouldn't know where to get something with SCSI would you?

If you are gonna use SCSI, the burn-proof feature is pretty
much unnecessary in my experience. I use 12X scsi burners in
my computers (Smart & Friendly 12-4-32X == Sanyo), and NEVER
coaster no matter how much other stuff is going on on my computer.
Of course, you need a decent source CD-ROM to do on-the-fly burns.
I use the Plextor SCSI CDroms myself.

The 10X rewrite speed (which I don't have) would be a nice little
bonus, but until the price of 10x rewritable discs comes down
to within shouting distance of CDR blanks (which are so cheap
now I just use them for file transfers), it isn't a big deal.

I this REALLY the same as a Plextor, including being able to run CloneCD and write CD-Text. You know, the works, just like the Plextor? If so, this is the deal I've been waiting for!

This is a fantastic deal. I own both the Plextor 12x and the TDK VeloCD. Both perform awesome and feature Burnproof technology (although TDK calls it something else)..

Whoever's in the market for a new burner should definitely jump on this deal.

It's not that I prefer SCSI as far as performance goes. It's just that I'm building a system for a guy and there's just way too many drives for me to stick with IDE. Need hard drive, zip, burner, and DVD. I was thinking of getting at least a SCSI burner and DVD and leave the rest IDE, that way there's actually room to add more hard drives later on.

chatterjee, actually the new TDK boxes are saying BurnProof on them now, and yes these are the same as the plextor drives, they will work with CloneCD and the works.

Personally i like the TDK better, it has a nice almost clear glossy front door, and a blue cd tray.

Just looked up the specs at TDX and Plextor and they look identical. TDK calls it "Failsafe" but in the copy refers to BURN-Proof. The rebate is good on purchases until the end of the year, so we can hold off for a $30 off Buy coupon and maybe a price drop!

Chatterjee: Are you able to do everything with the TDK that the Plextor does? (As mentioned above.)

Virtuamike: What mobo are you using? I have an Abit BE6-II and it has two ATA66 channels and two ATA33 channels of IDE. I have a DVD, CD-RW, Zip and FOUR HDs and still have room for one more something.

Kick ass!!! Now all I have to do is wait for that $30 off coupon to make its appearance and I'm all over this deal!

So, The rebate is one from circuit city on their littler rebate boards in the front of the store? Or do you have to ask for them?
Or can they be dont online?
Wass the deal.
I want this drive

Two questions about thia unit:

Does TDK supply a SCSI version of it?
How effective is it in overburning?

Sammyson...it's easier than that...

goto www.circuitcity.com and select the rebates tab up top, then select computer hardware and then scroll down the T's (e.g. TDK) and you'll find the rebate form to print out and send in...I'd link it for you but it uses session id's that probably wouldnt work

NDVegas...
It should work well for Overburning (and comes with Nero)...
TDK doesnt have a SCSI Version (at least yet), although unless you are committed to scsi, I'm not seeing a reason to spend the extra bucks for scsi with the buffers, speed and burn proof these things have now

Anyone know if buy.com will be having free shipping again anytime soon? I've been waiting for the Plextor one for ages, but this one is even better and looks cooler!

The VeloCD can do everything the plextor can. The TDK however sports Nero instead of Adaptec Easy CD creator....

The best would be to wait for a free shipping period and a 30 coupon.

Schweet!! We have a winner!!!

I'm already using Nero, but it'll be nice to have a *ahem*legit*cough* copy.

There are a lot of 12X drives out now. Why else will there be a rebate deal running? Prices may drop so, let's say that the price drops to $230 - $30 coupon - $50 rebate + free shipping + no tax = $150!!! Badabing!!!

Ok, just looked at the rebate. It doesn't say anyting about buying from circuit city... so this should be good for a purchase anywhere!

Here's the rebate, btw. the session id doesn't matter.

link erased...

DefRef, you can get Nero for free, legally. They come out with a demo version every month that expires at the end of every month. You can reinstall the new demo over the old, so unless downloading 5MB once a month is too much of a hassle for you, you can get it for free that way.
