Sorry if you're not a member, but, I'm sure you know someone who is. Picked up a TDK 16x Burner with Nero 5 (I immediately was able to upgrade it @ ahead's site to 5.5), payed $229 with a $50 rebate. Went in a few days later, price was $179. I talked to people at Customer Service and they gave me a $50 price adjustment. $229 - $50 - $50 = $129. You can pick it up right now for $179 and still get the $50 rebate I think until end of June. BTW, it works GREAT!

Great find! I have the 12x10x32 and love it. Paid $150 with rebate just 3 months ago and was happy.

BTW it only took about 4 weeks to get my rebate.

Question....is this a rebadged Plextor like the 12x10x32 is?

FatDragonn, What's wrong with your Cendyne? I have one, it's a TEAC and it's pretty good.

Can anybody who has a Cotsco and a membership hook me up with one of these for the actual plus shipping. It's a good deal at THIS price but there aren't any around Columbus, OH that I know of.

This would just be a favor for another AT'er. Plus - if you are close OR already on your way to get one....

lmk. If not, I'll live - just thought 'd try.

Thanks.

Are you sure it's $179 dude. I still see that their website said at $229.99.
Which costco did you buy this drive at?

goggleax - If my local CostCo carries this CD-RW I might be able to pick you up one.

Do you have MSN Messenger?

I'm not positive, but pretty sure it uses sanyo design, manufactured. Can someone back me up on this?

<< if is made in japan is usually a plextor >>

Are you sure about this? Sanyo is a Japanese company and makes a lot of their stuff in Japan. Plextor is an American company (I think, but I don't remember seeing it around in the old days of Sony, Panasonic, and Ricoh).

If this is true, then all the 16x TDKs at my Costco are all Plextor.

i'm not 100% sure about this but i personally think it is.
sanyo is a japanese company but most of their stuff is made in china

under the TDK box, there is model TLA# 000
i have check my costco and i see one made in japan and the others were from china
the one from japan also had the TLA# 000
if i remember right that the TLA # 000 is from plextor. i bought one of those from japan and it was a plextor.
correct me if i wrong in any way, that is what i came up with

I heard a few rumors about the TDK 16x.

Well i know the 8x and the 12x are "rebadged plex. models." But it seemed to be that the 16x was a Sanyo product, i've even heard some oddball stuff about CompUSA selling "ricoh" built TDK's... Who knows, but my bet is thats its a Sanyo.

<< does this drive burn at 16x through the whole disk??? >>

Absolutely not!!! 16x is only the maximum speed. No burner burns CDs at the max speed at all time. The speed really depends on where on the CD the burning occurs. As always, 16x means the max speed the most inner layer of the CD being burned.

<< Is this drive made by Plextor? >>

TDK VeloCD used to be rebadged Plextor. However, I heard the newest TDK's burners are rebadged Ricoh.

<< I'm not positive, but pretty sure it uses sanyo design, manufactured. Can someone back me up on this? >>

This is wrong again. As I said before, VeloCD used to be rebadged Plextor until replacing by Ricoh in the recent months. TDK's burners were never ever made by Sanyo. However, TDK did use Sanyo's technology, which is the well-known BurnProof Technology. One other hint is since TDK no longer selling the rebadged Plextor, they no longer advertise the burners with BurnProof technology. Instead, they advertise with JustLink.

<< how can u tell if it's rebadged plextor?? >>

Most Plextor burners are made in China. A small portion are made in Japan. If the drive is actually a rebadged Plextor, you can even rename the burner back to Plextor, or even hack it back to Plextor.

This is just my 0.02. Don't blame me if I am wrong.

If it has TLA# and from China then it is Plextor also 1 led and it is yellow led from green when burning.
