This is a Yamaha drive that includes TDK Certified Media, it actually isn't a TDK drive, the TDK will probably be a rebadge of the recently announced Plextor 16/10/40 ... Anyways, just wanted to let you know that you might want to change your subject, because it is kindof misleading, since the drive is a Yamaha, and not TDK, and the included Media is TDK. Sounds like a good deal otherwise, although I've heard some mixed reviews on the Yamaha drive.

I saw the TDK Velo 16x10x40x at Besty Buy a few weeks ago. Looks like it was a rebadged Plextor. It wasn't bad at $250.

According Yamaha Tech. info for the drive, you will only get 16x speed after 15 mins of the length of data, it means its partial 16x, for example, you wanna burn a 50mins audio tracks, first 15mins are being burned under 12x < burn speed < 16x.
And it has NO burnproof for sure. burnproof is copyrighted by sanyo, not yamaha

Moreover, MaxPC actually had to bring the Yamaha guys in to see if they could keep it from screwing up, and they were stumped. (Feb 01 issue)
I'd stay away. I'm very pleased with my TDK 121032.

just to clarify, the TDK version isn't a rebadge of the plextor.. at least i wouldn't think so. plextor just announced theirs, and tdk has had theirs out for a while.

Just a note that even when the manufacturer says 40x DAC rip it's not true. I saw a PC Magazine or PC World review saying that Yamaha rips at ~20x while TDK at ~30x. Could be wrong but think I got those numbers right.
