TDK 24X for $60+Tax (After MIR) at CC

You go to this link: fcc ID search

type in the fcc ID off the drive and it names the company and all. One guy off of these forums told me that there were only two makers of the velo 24x: Lite-On and Sanyo

Blue-face/tray is Lite_on
White-face/tray is sanyo

I have never seen a white-faced TDX 24x

Either way, this burner is fast!

Grabbed the last one on the shelf at the Southcenter CC B&M thanks to a nice employee that helped me find it very quick!

Typed in the FCC ID and mine is definitely a Liteon.. I thought it seemed like a Liteon anyway because of the way the tray comes out (weird and slow).. very nice drive though, I thought I was gonna have to settle for a Sanyo so now I'm more than happy..

I just went to my local CC. At first the rack for TDK was empty. I thought there was no hope for me. So I went to the game console section and played around with GameCube. Later I went back for the TDK, still empty. Suddenly a guys brought one and put it back on the rack. I was shocked and asked if it is for sell. He said yes because that was returned and still sealed. Well, of course I bought it, and got 2 rebate forms. I was so lucky.

Ordered one early this morning from CC (for store pickup - LakeGrove - NY). I managed to get the last one (so the girl says). Has a blue tray, so going by a previous post, I picked up a Lite-On. Can't remember the exact manufacturing date, but it was in late December (model 121040B - firmware 57S4). I'm happy!

A quick update. The drive is dated Dec. 23, 2001. Just checked the FCC ID, and it's definitely a Lite-On.

I got the last one ( I was the first one to get it when the doors opened !!!!). 60 bucks for a 24X CDR/W is not a bad deal. I paid $99 after rebate for my 12X about 3 month ago.

I have the QPS Sanyo rebadge which works great and never burns coasters but will not burn SD2. Just wanted to clear that up so people aren't misinformed >>



Well the Drive I got doesn't look like the the one in the review. This one looks more like the Lite-on drive than the Sanyo. It advertises on the box that it comes with the Smart Burn technology which is invented by Lite-on.

Just got my drive from Fry's also- at the Fremont store in SF Bay Area, CA. Don't be misled by the sign saying $149.99-50 rebate=$99.99, however it rang up as $109.99 - 50 rebate=$59.99 so Fry's deal is hotter since don't have to deal with the extra $20 rebate+tax. Plenty of TDKs at the Fremont store left.

Doesn't seem to be any TDKs left at any CC in S.F. bay area, except one in Dublin. Called the Hayward store and checked stock at Newark CC- they said they only had 5 this morning...all gone

About to try the drive- mfg. date is 12/22/01- hope it is a Lite-on.

Tell ya'll boys what, I saw the tread, then went this morning and bought one, and the damn thing will burn right, just won't read ANY cd. I updated w/wu, then it would read the volumes of the cd's, but the thing still won't read what's on the cd. Guess I'll return it for another tomorrow, unless there is any tech help in here that I need to know about By the way, apparently it is the Lite-on (it's the one with the blue tray. Any suggestions?

Warthog912, I'm also having the same problem with my TDK-Lite-ON.

It burns fine but it just doesn't play anything I throw at it! Just a nasty and loud static!

I think mine is going back as well!

What model and what manufacturing date do you have?

Mine is a 24/10/40B and was manufactured on 12-24-01.

According to FCC Number PPQRW1002 mine is a Lite-ON

Reinstalled my 12x Plextor and everything is fine so I think it is the TDK drive.(

:Q WAHAHAHA, I just SCORE BIG on this deal!

I run to CC this morning when they just open, pick up 2.

later when I come home , I read the BB has this drive for $59.xx no rebate. then I print out THIS BB TAG and run back to CC to PM... nice CC guy refund me $70 back for each driver, so I only PAY $120 for both drive.

Now I still have the original receipt and rebate forms. $120 - $140($70rebate x 2)= -$20

I got 2 GREAT 24x CDRW drive for FREE plus get $20 back... wow!!!

BTW, I think those people who having trouble of their drive won't read cuz their is 241040B .. my 2 drive both are 241040A! don't know the difference, but maybe is that cuzing problem, try exchange one that say 241040A

What did you say to them?

Can I just print out the tag and show them?
I won't be able to do pricematch until tomorrow. Will this be fine?

i just bring my receipt. not my drive.. and tell them I went to BB take the tag off and make a copy, that proof i'm there and BB instock..( but actually i'm lying )

well I just check my FCC ID, found out my 241040A is a lite-on made in China/Taiwai.. so if anyone who has 241040B check their FCC ID, if it's a sanyo drive. then that's the difference. If it's also a lite-on then I DONT KNOW????
