I have a friend in Orland Park,IL that just went back to CC, got his money back, then had them price match BB, bought the same drive back for $59.97 + tax...your saving a lota money as your not paying tax on them rebates..

Well there you go, SCSI are "drives" also. You made a blanket claim that Sanyo does not produce drives, this is not true.

Ok, fine.

Sanyo doesn't make drives which could be rebadged into Lite-on IDE drives.

SH@T!!! The B drive is the bad one...dammit....thats the one I got...I was pretty happy too. Is CC pricematching the BB price? I haven't installed the drive yet, but won't bother if there is a problem reading...its not worth the time...

Directly from the TDK Site:
Firmware - 24/10/40X Model ONLY
*Newest Firmware upgrade for the veloCD 24/10/40X model ONLY.
Not to be used with veloCD 24/10/40B or 24/10/40XA model (refer to print on face plate of drive for exact model of your drive)

So this tells me that there is an A, B and X model drive. My 241040B drive through FCC ID search comes up with Lite-On.

Does anyone have a 241040A model or 241040X model to run the FCC # through?

Ok Folks. I hit my CC at about 4:45 PM today. I had called ahead and was old they had 4 in stock on the shelf. I got there to find none on the shelf. I go to the front desk and have them see if I could order the drive. They show 3 in stock in the store. I go back again to the back and as I'm waiting to have a salesman go check in the back a guy walks by me with one. I asked where he got it and he says a man got it for him from the back.but it was the last one. So I procedded to ask why all the discrepancies. He goes in the back to check again for me saying he thought there was another one there. He comes back with another after 10 minutes and says it is deff the last one this time. I bought it for 136 total and got my rebate forms.

The UPS on the bottom of my box has S/N B241040A 162229 Manuf in Dec 2001. What does this mean. You guys talk of an A and a B and my number has the A and the B just as stated above. It also has the picture on the front with the blue tray(dunno if that for sure means the tray is blue) What drive do I have? Also, I currently have the TDK 12x10x32 drive (a plextor I believe). Would I be losing some long term reliability by upgrading to this drive since I have a plextor now which is pretty darn fast? I am gonna hit BB tomorrow and see if theres a chance there is any left there at 60 bucks price. If so I'll return this to CC and try to get my difference back. Hey hacgumyu How you get that price tag? What can I tell em I got it from. BB have a copy machine in the back? Then again I might go ahead and buy from BB and just return the CC one. What do you guys think?

oh guys. let clear the A or B confusion!

here's what I have:
TDK 241040B, becareful, cuz on the serial sticker it said B241040Axxxxxx, but on the drive it's AI-CDRW 241040B. you can identify your drive by looking at the front of the drive's lower left, it should said 24/10/40A or B

The drive have BLUE TRAY FACE and TRAY
some people tell me their drive's tray face is white/gray but the tray is blue( that's different than what i have )

Manuf date: Dec 23 2001
FCC ID # PPQRW1002

I'm going to install the drive after this post, and test it then come back here to tell you my drive work or not!

EDIT: I tested, with game cd, music cd and even PSX game cd.. all read with no problem! this drive is VERY QUITE TOO. so happy now

BTW double check all your cables too if you are having problems with your drive. I couldn't burn drive to drive and thought the burner was bad until I put the old one back in and saw that it did the same thing. Don't know if putting it in caused the problem because I had the same cable with two or three other CDRWs and never had a problem. Stuck in a new cable and ta da! Fixed the problem.

OK, you want the 241040B with the blue door, thats the Lite-On..Just for the heck of it after I had it installed and throughly tested I watched the install video..the one in the video has white door...This is the hot unit to have or a Plexor..These are very good for making copy`s of copy protected software thats why everybody wants a Lite-On or Plex...
I,m running dual boot 98 and Xp pro and it runs fine on both, same as above, nice and quite, very fast, and good play back...
