though i agree with gaghalfrunt, just ignore the fact that he's a tactless, grumpy old codger.
if you've never golfed before, i don't suggest that a resort like coeur d'alene or any other 18 hole regulation course be the place to start. before you to a real course you really should have some basics down including some experience in hitting a ball straight and 100 yards forward, otherwise you'll just end up frustrating everybody behind you for 4 hours. you'll be incessantly looking for balls, digging chunks of sod up, and feeling pressured because of everyone behind you pushing you forward. it just wouldn't be fun.

head down, knees bent, keep your eye on the ball. This will get a 300 yd drive right up the middle everytime.

Thanks for you guys with helpful comments.
Yes, I'm definitely thinking of going to the range this week and get some practice. If I don't have time though, it's no big deal. I'm not gonna play a serious game and just gonna go there to have fun.

Good for you. When the dozens of groups of actual golfers you're holding up call the clubhouse to complain you can try that excuse on the marshall that's dragging your clueless ass off the course.
