how do you remember all of your student's names?

what's your secret to match faces/bodies to names?

I don't... Seating chart + enforced seating! (Although I gradually get their names that way)

It's not that hard. Coach a kids sport and you'll see.

I can't remember names. Most become a blur after a few years.

Heck, I've had pretty girls who worked as models and I still can't remember their names.

I don't. I just ask them to collect their graded reports at the beginning of lab. They don't remember my name either.

EDIT: But for tips, if you're a lab TA like I am, remember them based on race and sex. E.g. you may have a white male/Hispanic female and a Hispanic male/white female group, so it's easy to know which group is John and Maria and which one is Juan and Mary. On the other hand, it can backfire when you assume Bobby Xue was working with Jane Doe, when she was actually working with Johnny Nguyen.

most teachers generally require fixed seating for that reason.

Then they either draw a chart, ask for paper desk name tags to be put on tables, or some even take a picture and write on it lol.

After a while I guess they just start remembering, we're not talking about huge numbers of people anyway.

In university names are just not remembered anymore except for single persons that get noticed in some way.

Now that I think back to high school and before, I think fixed seating is the secret and it makes sense.

I memorize the seating chart. After about 20 weeks, I let them sit wherever they want. I'm HORRIBLE with names. I had 2 students switch seats as a joke and pretended they were each other's name for a day. The rest of the year, I couldn't keep track of which was which.
