Please explain this fascinating statement. I need to know how the President of the US has become "the real problem with our educational system" in just 6 years time.

Don't you know, George Bush takes time out of his busy schedule to visit every school, sit in the back of the class, and make distracting animal noises to stop the children from learning.

He just hates children that much. Plus, he pays corporate executives cold hard cash to actually, physically, rape the poor.

No Child Left Behind. it's trashing our school system. sure, it's a great idea in theory, but when it comes down to it... there are a lot of people who should be left behind.

You obviously have no idea what the hell you're talking about. NCLB may have some problems, that it certainly isn't that. Just because you know how to read a title doesn't mean you actually know what it is about.

I don't want a flame war but the NCLB is a very horrible program. Good friend of mine teaches special education and before the NCLB all special ed students attended their own class. They were taught basic skills (very basic math, reading, mostly social skills) now they only get 1-3 hours a day of their speical education class while the rest of the day is spent in regular class. You tell me how a special ed student is supposed to learn Algebra II while they can barely add 2+2...

10/10. my mother is a math teacher. she did this to some guy at a fast food joint one time. when he looked confused, she took the change out of his hand, took more out of her purse, and proceeded to have a math lesson on the counter. you should see the shade of red he turned. classic.

yes, since the person that couldn't figure out the change was in first grade 6 years ago... or are you telling me that people should learn addition and subtraction in middle school or later?

edit: should have read the whole thread first... this comment was already made... somewhat more eloquently, even.

Have either you or your mother *been* a cashier before?

I'm no fool with math, and like most of you, I've had higher level calculus. But whn the register does it for you all day, you just tend to not think about it. When suddenly someone asks you to actually *do* the problem, it <GASP> often takes a couple of seconds for you to think about it, especially because you're caught off guard. Now, the girl who called her manager is one thing, but don't be the dick who tries to play games with the cashier because you have noting better to do.

/rant

Now, I know I wasn't there, and you mother may have been legit, but the way it sounds from what you said, she could just as likely have been a huge jerk.

Ask your friend why his system made the decision to take the money then. I don't think Washington is sending in the troops forcing local school systems to participate. It really is a no win situation, public education screams constantly for more money and when the Feds oblige them but tell them there are standards to be met to show the money is actually being used for educational purposes they squeal like stuck pigs. The system I work for is on NCLB and our special ed kids still have their own class so your friends problem is his school system and not NCLB.

That is true for 99.99% of calc students. And the sad part is that all of algebra can be taught in under a dozen rules. The rest is just time. That's the real problem. Students just don't take the time (or tests don't give them time).

Good joke, but looking at some of the responses, I think some people need to learn how to read

It's a joke and really has little to do with actual math
