To join the team just make a user.txt file and place it in the muon folder then put something like this in the user.txt file. [TA]Starrider

Can someone post or link to instructions for getting DPAD set up in Windows/Linux? I can't even find a link to download the client...

Here is the site - the Windows client is here too:: Muon1 for Windows, version 4.43d. I do not know if there is a Linux-client ... :sun:

The setup is very simple:
You have to be connected to the internet.
1. Unzip the contents of the ZIP-file to a directory of your choice.
2. Create a text-file (e.g. by using notepad) with the name user.txt, put your username (e.g. [TA]Allio) on the first and only line. The [TA] before your name denotes that you crunch for Team Anandtech.
3. Double-click on either the muon1_background.exe or the muon1_cmdline.bat to start. Do not use the muon1.exe-file because that file is also a screensaver which takes a lot of resources and detracts from the crunching.
4. The client starts and downloads some parameter files. Off you are.
5. The results are stored in the results.txt-file. When that file is 100 KBytes it will be uploaded to one of several servers, which then pass the results to the main site, which compiles the stats.

Here is an other stats site ...

I can't get to the site. Can anyone else? Maybe it's at my end.

Edit: looks like there is no Linux client anyway, so all I'd be able to put on is one A64 box. Worth it?

Absolutely, every box counts right now. I just got to the site OK. Try again?

And a BIG welcome!

I'm pretty sure I've gotten it to work on Linux with Wine before. It would be worth a shot, I think.

I have no problems getting to it. Just checked it - works OK.
Yes, it is worth it. You may - depending on the speed of the processor get some 12 000 - 25 000 Mpts/day

Still can't reach the site. Can someone do me a big favour and host the client for me somewhere? I'll get it on at least an A64 @ 2.5 and try for my Sempron @ 2 under Linux as well if Wine decides to play nice.

I just read the FreeDC "Anandtech stomping" thread and it pissed me off :|

It's all in good fun, and for the Science as well. Free-DC are good people, and right now they have the edge in comps.

But if they blink....

I'm hoping amd.borg has a little surprise for them.

Oh don't worry, I know

This is getting really frustrating, I still can't reach the site and petrusbroder's emails didn't work - can anyone with the v443d.rar file upload it to http://www.senduit.com/ and paste the link in here?

Edit: just realised I probably won't be able to download any work anyway. Sigh!

Phew, finally got it. Thank you for being so patient

I can't connect to the server, but it seems to be doing work anyway.

Ok now we need another cruncher!!! How about one of the people from the Rosetta team. I know you could spare a comp for DPAD.

More,more,more!!!!!!!!!

I'm trying to get one pc going, but I get an Access Violation when I launch muon1.exe, muon1_background.exe, or muon1.scr. I'm running Windows XP x64 on an AMD FX-60.

Stephen at DPAD said it had not been tested in a 64-bit environment. He said it's 32-bit, which should run. I'm using a lot of 32-bit apps without problems.

Hmmm, I have also seen that when running the background version on XP64. Have you tried the command-line version? It worked for me much better then the background version. The muon1.scr does also an access violation.

I'm ignorant of all the facts, but the thought of creating black holes scares me. Yes, I know that science has already created one on a very small scale for a brief period of time, but the thought still scares me.

lol ,what? DPAD doesn't create little black holes! ,its Designing a Particle Accelerator which smashes atoms up & then studying what flies out

Spacehead
I just re-downloaded the util ,updated AVP (Kapersky) & scanned ,its clean.

Ref Linux ,from DPAD FAQ

Muon1 under Linux is to use Wine (try it! Apparently it's not slow and with some care you can even get the graphics to work).

And 1 Ath64 box is definitly worth it

I got it going after a bit of fiddling - the Sempron seems to have produced a 350KB results.txt file while I slept, so I guess it's working

Still can't hit the servers from my home connection, but if this keeps up I'll just start flushing from work.

Is there any way you can work out approximately how many Mpts you've done by the size of results.txt or will I have to wait til I flush?

Edit: just found this, looks like it'll do the trick
