hmmmm...I am blissfully unaware of how networks operate!

Right now, I have three XP systems and a Win98 system in a workgroup.

Each system has only one account(which has admin rights)
To install the service remotely do I need to create an admin account on each machine with the same name(i.e. administrator)? Or maybe there's something else completely different I have to do? Perhaps those of you with this knowledge would care to enlighten me?

Don't worry Sukhoi, I've got all these machines crunching away in the meantime!
I'd hate to see potential crunching power wasted! (especially Athlon XP's!) :Q:Q:Q:Q:Q:Q

I'm just trying to figure this all out for a bigger install I plan to do in a few months.

Thanks!

Worked 42 straight hours w/out sleep. Very, very bad database issue at work. Damn DBA's overwrote some data on the prod dbase and then propagated the change to the reporting dbase. Had to go to tape. Bad, bad stuff. :|

Anyways, where was I. Where are you running into issues getting the 9x install to work. The script that I wrote 2 or 3 weeks ago would detect the OS and install accordingly. I'm not sure how you're doing the NT install now, but you should be able to steal the 9x info from there. PM me and we'll discuss.

Oh yeah, where can you d/l the LAN install from? Looks like you removed the link from the first message. I have a couple places I can mirror from. I might even be able to throw it at something like TAsetiinstaller.home.com.

Hmm, interesting situation. I hadn't considered this situation. I was always assuming (very incorrectly) that we would be in a domain situation and would have admin rights globally. If I understand correctly, you have multiple XP machines on a local network in a workgroup that you're attempting to push the seti client out to remotely, correct? If you create a local acct w admin privledges and the same name/pwd on each machine, it -should- work but it's kind of a kluge.

<< I assume you guys know this, but to get the service running just do a "net start XXXX". >>

If you are the proud, and few, owners of the first release of the FlexInstaller you should be able to do this from a CMD promt in the "C:\Program Files\Team Anandtech Seti Installer" folder and Type at the prompt "SR START pcname"

The NT/2K/XP install either locally or over LAN is fully functional and even will install on multiple CPU rigs. BTW it will install 1 client on 1 CPU rigs, 2 on 2, 3 on 3, 4 on 4, 5 on 5 etc. until it doesnt find another CPU associated with that PC. The Win9X install can work over the LAN, but requires two reboots and that is going to be a hassle for a large assimilation. So far it is pretty damn automated and bot is proving to be quite the genius with the installer project. As far as the next TeAm Anandtech FlexInstaller version release, that is up to bot right now since he is putting the final touches on the reworked program.

Yah, that's the situation I'm in. I haven't had much time the last few days but I'll look into it soon and give it another try when the next flexinstaller is released.
