I'm having a bit of a weird problem, i can't browse to my user_info.sah file.
No matter which drive i select from the dropdown box, it automagically jumps back to the one where the flexi installer is installed.
My system is a dual celeron with win2k prof...

I can't wait to test the version that has SETIDRIVER.

Especially since I haven't bothered to install it as a service on all the PCs at work I'm allowed to, so it will be easy to test a number of installs at once!

I expect that your proggy is going to make it on the list of 3rd party software once word gets out!

I was reading the thread over at ARS Team Lambchop where they were accusing Cobra of everything from cheating to global warming to the Kennedy assasination. In it, several people bemoaned (big word of the day ) the lack of a network installer. This could be huge for the Seti community.

Keep up the great work Shux and bot!

Did you do a search to make sure you have one? Do you already have a SETI account?

Not sure what or how this discussion is/has been going, but, there are some reservations about releasing v1.0 for mass consumption. I for one did not like the fact that another teams installer package limited it to team members. After seeing the potential for this program I had second thoughts and have had a few people PM with the same concerns. See this Vote on the subject.

Shux, I think he means have a program group for SETI. You could put all the install/start/stop/uninstall shortcuts in that too.

The GUI client gets the user_info.sah without going to a DOS box. No idea how it's actually done internally though.

Hmmm, with the exeption of the SETIDriver install the remainder are meant to be installed as a service with the CLI. I have soliceted Narzy and hopefully bot and narzy along with the continued feedback will come up with a final product soon.

As a sidenote: my server is getting slammed with downloads now, are there other people who are willing to mirror/host for downloading this thing? its 2MB+.

I had DLed the installer a few days ago before you pulled it, so I tried it downstairs on my Win98SE machine. The installer itself worked great, but it never seemed to start the CLI service even after I rebooted. It could have to do with the fact that it's a brand new Win98SE installation without any patches or anything. I'll try out the next installer version and see how it works.

It states in the README to install the C:\Program Files\TeAm Anandtech Seti Installer\VBRUN60SP4.exe if it fails, then run the FlexInstaller again.

I tried a local install on Winxp pro tonight and it worked great.

In the next couple of days, I'll try a LAN install on a Winxp machine and I'll also try out a local Win98 install or two.

The Lan install is just what I've been looking for! In a couple of months, I have permission to assimilate a network of about 25 systems - a mix of celerons and P3's, and I think a P4!

Thats great, I think it was mentioned earlier by bot that there will be a GUI for the LAN control as well. The LAN does have that functionality but you'll have to go to a CMD line to access it in the BETA.

I have a seti account. The problem is that the flexi installer is installed on drive d: but my seti is installed on drive e:
When i try to select drive e: from the drive list at the userinfo browse window, it jumps back to drive d:

Try this Nuke, make a copy of the user_info.sah into the D:\ directory that you can get to.

Maybe since you can't bundle the seti client with the installer, you could have a field like the one for the user_info.sah, where you could browse to the seti executable. But then the installer would probably have to rename the client for it to work.

Note: I can't tell myself as all of my NT/2000 machines already have the SETI client installed and running (of course) but rleach2 told me that on machines with a computername longer than 13 characters the client is not installing. I don't know if it makes a difference but most of our computernames are installed as the user's name in the format "first_last" (with no quotes and the normal limit of 15 characters).

It may be an issue if the names do not have an underscore as the LAN PC discovery function is based on NET VIEW. If there is a issue then it would be in that command. I will look at that and see what I get, it may however be an anomoly within the way VB handles that function. If that is this case then bot will have to look at that since I am a VB putz..

I don't know too much about the installer but I have noticed a couple of problems. When I did a local install to an XP machine, I had to reboot to get the service to start. This may be normal operation, though.

I also just attempted an XP Lan install and it did not work. Could it perhaps be that I wasn't logged on as an administrator? I haven't actually used an admin account because this is just my home network but I'll make an admin password and give it another try later.

It would have everything to do with it... The only way to connect to the defualt admin share would to be have admin rights. LMK how it goes.
