Our friendly neighborhood Mod has accomodated us by re-sticking this thread at the top again. Thanks much!

As before, let me know about any changes here and I will edit to reflect them.

Some newbies have asked what the point of a queue is and I'll quote what I wrote later in this thread:

Over the past couple months, SETI has undergone either severe bandwidth restrictions (meaning that client machines had difficulty connecting directly to get new WUs) or outright outages (no one could connect).

Programs like Setiqueue allow users to "save for a rainy day" and have some extra WUs stored up in case no one can get new work from SETI. That way, the machine never goes idle. Meanwhile, the queue will do all the uploading and downloading of WUs for your machines.

It serves multiple purposes in that it can act as a server for alot of machines and is helpful for those behind restrictive firewalls (where the internal machines don't have outside internet access to SETI). It also allows some modicum of stats, where you can monitor how you're doing (especially when the SETI stats are down).

Remember, the aim is to not overload 1 or 2 queues to the point where they'll never be able to upload all the results and download new ones within a 24 hour period. I and others can try to monitor the situation and update the TeAm queue statuses.

NOTE - IF YOU WANT TO USE A QUEUE FOR THE FIRST TIME, PLEASE PM THE QUEUE OPERATOR FIRST. THAT PERSON WILL THEN MOVE WUs INTO YOUR NEW SUB-QUEUE AND LET YOU KNOW WHEN THAT PROCESS IS COMPLETE.

Now let's get out there and CRUNCH THOSE WUs!!! MORE MORE MORE!!!!

Here's a list of other TeAm Proxies:

Poof,

I have setup a queue on the T1 at work that can be hit at crazee.dns2go.com port 5517. The one on the DSL connection was not uploading units to users fast enough. This queue should perform much better

You can use my SetiQ server too if you want.

Conection to the seti servers is quite good at the moment.

Earlier this morning there was a problem with DNS2GO that put my queue out of reach for an hour or so. I have setup the queue on a static ip address of 216.133.27.135. I would advise anyone that is using my queue that they might want to point to the ip. I will continue to run DNS2go for those that have remotes setup on it. This is the first problem I have had with their service, but I want to be sure that everyone who uses the queue is taken care of

Well it looks like whatever problem DNS2GO was having has been cleared up since it has been running fine for a couple of days now. So people can connect either using the ip (Since it is static that will always be up) or with crazee.dns2go.com.

Sincerest apologies to user of siren.2y.net:5001. It looks like the server crashed and froze on reboot sometime soon after 7:45pm ET yesterday (09/03/02). As I was away for the weekend, I only discovered this a few minutes ago. Everything is back up and running fine. My guess about the cause of the crash is heat, as temperatures reached an abnormal +17 Celcius here in Montreal yesterday. Temperatures are thankfully back down to a cozy -10 Celcius today, but I'm adding better ventilation just in case.

Anyway, crunch on.

I have been using orange kid's Q and I am going to need some work units later today and he seems to be down, because of last time I tried one of the other Q's i got really chewed out for not e-mailing the Q operator for permission to use the Q. The Q that I used was one of those on the list, will someone give me the OK to download some workunits? I will need about 15 to get me by for a day.

Bleep, I don't see why anyone would chew you out for using any of the Q's on this list. After all, this is a TeAm SetiQ list. If anyone doesn't want to give 'public' access to their Q, they shouldn't be on this list.

While I'm typing, I might as well explain what's been going on with my SetiQ lately. It seems that about a week ago, the stick of Corsair XMS2400 256Mb RAM started acting like a piece of 128Mb, and hasn't been stable since. If I leave the system alone though, everything works fine. I'm trying to get my hands on another piece of 256MB, to make sure the board isn't the problem. Lack of funds are making it hard, unfortunately. Meanwhile, I'm keeping the Q up.

So Bleep, by all means...

I don't think anyone of us who operates a queue was upset with people using them. I think the only complaint that any of us had was people connecting and not being patient by waiting for us to fill their queue. What happens then is we are left with filled queues that people aren't using. That is why alot of the queue operators were asking for a heads up so that if we know when you are connecting we can get some WUs in your queue

Bleep I think the only reason there was an issue was because people
were queue hopping and didn't inform the Qmasters that they weren't going to connect to their queue anymore (hence leaving a # of WUs sitting in their vacant queue that won't be processed).

Also, I think they prefer if you join a new queue that you save up and send 1 completed WU. That apparently makes their jobs much easier

All the best,
-RT
