Hello all.....

It's that time again....we have been challenged to a new race with DSL Team Starfire...Put that new Motherboard/CPU to work and see what it can really do! :Q You'll have a blast too....

The last race was a great growing experience for both teams but was ended just short of completion because of the sad day of September 11th.

Since then though, team DSL Starfire has outgrown and outproduced us considerably.....now it's our turn!!! :Q:Q:Q

A new race has started and we need your support.....all it takes is a few extra cpu cycles...just a few. The clients use spare CPU cycles in the search for signals and other signs from space for intelligent life or anomolies. They are easy to use, have little (mostly NO) impact on your system (even in benchmarks) and also help science too

Come on over to the DC forum and see what TeAm AnandTech is all about...you'll be glad you did!!!

Race Rules thread!

Race Start Thread (with stats links)

What team DSL Team Starfire thinks of AnandTech! :Q

TeAm Welcome thread with client information and setup links

Team AnandTech Strikes back! :Q Buwhahahaha!

Come on guys...put that new PC to work....support this great site and a great TeAm...

Team AnandTech needs your help.......please answer the call and defeat the DSL team...you'll be glad you did!

(P.S. Thanks Mods for allowing our threads...it means alot!)

It is a race where you can show the power of your rigs and the power of TeAm Anandtech's rigs! DSL Reports has challenged us to a race in Seti and they are making fun of us as we speak. Help defend the honor of TeAm Anandtech!

You know.. has anyone done any reports on how much this SETI@home/distributed computing actually helps? To do this you need to leave your system on all day and night running at full processing.. how much extra electricity does that burn (compared to not being under full usage.. or not on at all?) Does a little bit of number crunching in the search for extraterrestrial intelligence or.. whatever.. justify not only the electrical bill but the blatant waste of energy?

I don't want to be a punk.. but I'm really interested to know if it's even remotely 'worth' it.

Well, you sure don't need to run it all the time if you don't want to. For me, (as it is for many people) my computers stay on pretty much all the time anyway, so I may as well put them to use. For me, it seems like a waste of energy to leave them on without them doing anything. I don't think the power difference between them running at full usage and running idle would be all that great. (Besides, i'm not the one paying the power bill in this household )If you like to shut your computer down, that's just fine; just run SETI when you're using it. TeAm Anandtech welcomes and appreciates all contributions, even if you're just running SETI a small amount of time.

To tell you the truth, I don't really believe in the SETI@home cause. I just want to put spare processing cycles to use, and beat DSLR.

<< why is this on hot deals again? >>

Because the RACE started today at 1:00 pm central time..

Time to spread the word....80,000+ members on this board and 1400 as a part of TeAm AnandTech SETI....would be nice to let the rest that haven't already seen or know about TeAm AnandTech to know!

Welcome aboard to all new members....and a warm invitation to the rest who haven't tried (or have and would like to try again)

Bump for this! And I think people are joining like crazy, i refreshed the page every 3 minutes (the page that shows the members and # of members of team anandtech) and everytime it goes up a few, I just joined myself and estimated that 1 unit/packet or whatever they are called would take about 10 hours on my athlon 900, but in 5-10 days i'll have my athlon xp 1800 up and running

this is not a hot deal, just becuase it pertains to AT doesn't make it justified. I suggest that if you find it important have the mods post it. if they don't find it worth posting then perhaps it shouldnt.

Lots of sourdrop people..

Good looking screensaver to download is hot. Even hotter command line interface (CLI) client for pure competition and cranking out lots of work units. It all goes to help AnandTech stay at the top of the world groups (soon to pass IBM, Intel, and Microsoft).. Now here's a chance to show off some of those great hardware buys and to put them to good use in order to help AT fend off DSL Reports.

It's an ego thing... turn on your TV.. just like football bowl appearances, it's an ego thing... join up for some fun.

Happy New Year, fellas.

The Mod's have always let us keep "ONE" live thread in most (if not all) forums for recruiting and to spread the word. Thanks for the bump, welcome to all new members and have a Happy, CRUNCHING (or cracking, etc) New Year!

Thanks Mods!

Upgrading both my boxes next week bump.
If nothing else, run SETI to benchmark your system, test for stability or just the heck of it. Help make DSL "The breakfast of champions"

<< there goes the "strict" forum rules. >>

We've been allowed to do this since the forums have opened ...We keep one thread going in each forum during times like these (the Race) and when the thread gets too big...we let it die and start a new one. We haven't had one since Sept. 11th, so not so bad

Welcome to all the new members and we welcome the rest of you also

Bump for TeAm Anandtech.

Engineer, don't feel obligated to defend yourself or TeAm Anandtech from a bunch of assholes. Their stupidity and selfishness only help your cause. Obviously you've been around the block and know what you're doing. Keep up the good work.

I have an AMD running at 1400, or roughly 75W. At idle, it idles...my guess is under 5-10W. So, at an extra 70W, it could runs 24hours for around a quarter at 15cents per Kwhr. NOw that doens't take into account the usage of the system itself, but isolates the extra CPU usage. Leaving it on all year would make me around $91 poorer. That's a lot of $ for bragging rights...but there are other wastes of money less helpful to humanity, so I can't complain only about this without being a hypocrite.
