Team Fortress 2 is easily the most fun FPS I've ever played, and I've extensively played pretty much every major and even not-so-major FPS since the Doom/Heretic/Hexen days.
The most amazing part for me is that I usually have the most fun with online FPS's when I play with real life friends on a regular basis. I haven't yet convinced any of them to play TF2 and it's STILL such a blast to play.
Some of the reasons I love this game so much are:
1. Fun, mature players. You rarely see many xXxLegolasLOLxXx's running around. The server I play everyone is an adult and there's no screaming idiots on the mic or griefers.
2. No cheating/hacking. At least none that I've ever noticed.
3. Valve updates the game like a mini MMO, providing free updates for us to have something to look forward to.
4. Many various classes to play. It's not like Call of Duty or Counterstrike where basically everyone is the same guy running around with a mildly different kind of gun. There's so much varied playstyle it never gets old.
5. It's UNIQUE! I don't know how to explain this point well, it's just different. It doesn't take itself so seriously like other games do. I play it and I have a great time. I'm not worried about my numbers or how much I 'pwned' people, I switch classes to whatever will help the team have a better chance of winning. In the endless graphics vs gameplay argument, the gameplay on this is second to none.
6. Out of all this, it's also incredibly deep and strategic. There are so many different ways to win with different setups of your team, there's always a way to win.
7. You don't have to be a pinpoint super accurate amazing FPS player to be decent at the game. I'm not a good FPS sniper, and I'm just an average 'offensive' FPS player. I am very good at medic, engineer, and spy. None of these require you to be super good at killing at all, yet you contribute in a huge way to your team's effort.
That's all I can think of right now. I'm sure there are TF2 threads buried somewhere, I just thought it deserved a bit more love.
Cheers! If anyone wants to play with me my Steam username is detfan25, add me.
