I guess I can see instances where Orange can get overpowered by a sniper and/or spy. And I will admit that it has happened to me/my team when playing before. But, generally speaking, I guess any map can be dominated by a GREAT player in whatever class. I've just had more OUTSTANDING matches on Orange than any other mpa out there. Ilove the epic battle of up and back on that map.

I'll still say the latest incarnation(s) of Orange have gotten WAY better. There is much more "stuff" in the way to obscure and limit the snipers line of sight.

At least we can all agree on how great TF2 is.

Did I mention I freaking want the Engineer's specials and accomplishments like NOW!!!

I agree 100% - And orange maps are a ton of fun with the right mix of players..

I just heard someone say that one of the engie updates is a gold wrench that gives metal when you hit people..

TF2's such an awesome experience, so many maps, gamemodes, classes, weapons.

How could you get bored. The art style is so fresh, I mean look at all of the console shooters and all you see is grey, brown, and bloodspots all over your screen.

And not all of the classes are twitch-based FPS cliches. For example, I think the Spy and engineer are some of the most interesting and original gameplay concepts I've seen.

But on the flipside, there can be a lot of skill involved with all classes, like stairstabs for spys.

Only issue is that Valve as a whole doesn't know how to balance it for both comp. and pubs.

I've had TF2 since early 2008, but I've never been able to get into it. I think it's just too hard for newbies. Usually when I play I get killed over and over again without even knowing what happened. I can't play well with any of the classes.

I'm not sure what it is. I'm not very good at twitch shooters but even with them I do better than I do with TF2. I've put in the requisite hours in the game that I ought to have at least figured out some basic strategy (many suggest starting out as a medic to get a feel for the game, which I did), but that hasn't helped.

All I know is, for whatever reason, I'm worse (compared to the average) at TF2 than at any other game that isn't an RTS.

you read the wikis
theres a lot of death but theres a lot of respawn.
and there are classes like engineer that let slower folks just sorta poke around building stuff if you can't handle fast death matching. not everyone has to play scout after all.
perhaps your system doesn't give you enough fps to get smooth control.

I've read and watched guides. I think I had the most fun playing as an engineer a while back. If I ever get back into the game that's probably how I'll do it.

I can't play as a scout. Can't hit, or even hurt, anything. I've tried pyro (W+M1!) and it's basically the same except I do actually hit people (still don't hurt them though).

I used to play heavy fairly often but I get headshotted in approx. 0.000001 second the instant I enter an area where enemies are visible.

I definitely have the power to handle the game though, Radeon 4870 gives smooth framerates with everything maxed.

i dunno, do you use a cheap wireless mouse? its pretty easy for me to hit someone with the scout, just fire right at them, its hit scan, theres no "prediction" like with grenades or rockets. point and shoot.

i dunno, perhaps watch spectate through fps view to see how other people play
its far more forgiving a game that say counterstrike to a newbie

I'm an old school HL/Q2/Q3 Team Fortress player and it's still comical when people who are completely new to it find out they've discovered the fountain of youth.

I have to agree that TF2 was done perfectly, I was surprised that grenades and armor were removed, but the resulting balance w/o grenades was done perfectly.

The old school TF engineer gave you armor when hitting you with the wrench, kind of like metal, since you could drop extra ammo as metal for engineers.

You need to start playing smart and aggressive. Pay attention to how other people are dying. For example, if you see or hear your teammates getting heatshotted by sniper the instant they leave your base, don't just run out; stay back and let enemies come to you. Also watch your back, look at your surrounding often, don't just run to places with a tunnel vision. Always think about how your enemies are reacting during an attack: are they hurt? Are they running away? Are they bluffing? Maybe you have a slow mouse look, turn it higher so it takes you less time to look around and makes you aim faster. Pick one class and try mastering that class. Don't invest the same amount of time for all 9 classes, you'll never get good with a particular class that way.

If you can;t hit anything with scout you have to realize that his scattergun is hitscan, there is no delay between when you fire it and when the bullets reach their target. The delay in the bullet animation throws many people off, because the actual hit window occurs before the animation appears. Hitscan weapons, learn to love them.

Was it a free weekend this past weekend? I swear I have not played with that many noobs since the last free weekend. :hmm:

It was fine, but I really had to walk people through things, even on servers where there are usually lots of regulars.

Shocked I don't see this here yet.

So, they've announced the first new item (posted after the 25th Austrailium "Golden" wrench was found. Found via crafting, before you ask) and it is the "Frontier Justice" shotgun.

50% smaller clip size
No random crits

But you do get "Revenge Crits" two crits for every kill your sentry gets before it's destroyed and one for each assist. They haven't explicitly said whether or not the shotgun stores them up but I'm assuming that it does.

Also, when the sentry is destroyed, the Engineer receives "bonus crits." No specifics given on that one.

Update released this Thursday. Hold on to your butts.

I have played on Source OP 24/7 Gold Rush for pretty much my entire TF2 existence. I know it's limiting but I know alot of people on the server now so it's hard to move away from that. I know there's a ton more out there in the game to enjoy so I need to expand my horizons a little

Whether or not this new shotgun will be balanced all comes down to how it "stores" crits. If it holds on to them forever... ouch. You could just keep building and blowing up a level 1 to get a number of crits and then go wreck some damage [/assumption]. Hopefully there will be some kind of cool down.

I was assuming that it only meant when the sentry is destroyed by enemies.

Easymode: they blow up your sentry, you get crits and can do 100+ damage at midrange. They don't blow up your sentry and they get screwed.

Spys: get screwed because you now have guaranteed crits on not only your wrench, but your shotgun.

I seriously can't see how this isn't a blatant upgrade, I mean 3 normal shotgun blasts is enough to take out all but a heavy at close-mid range.
