I can't say for sure, but I think we will be hiring VB programmers and possibly PDM specialists soon. If you live in the Detroit / Auburn Hills area send an email to painter1@grieko.net with a description of what your looking for. I will forward it to the appropriate people.

How close are you to northwest Indiana Evadman? I didn't realize you were so close and we were even unemployed together.

Precisely why I came up with this thread

Glad you've landed that one Baldy and still in the IT Industry too

Actually it is the first job I've ever had that was somewhat IT related. I do know that we are looking to hire more people in Northwest Indiana.

Congrats Wolfie

I hope you will be one of the better truck drivers on the road. Back when that song was made truck drivers were without a doubt the best drivers but now that is not the case. I've seen them cut people off, drive side by side going slow on the InterState blocking everyone behind them (this happens all the time now :| ) .

Agreed, but then I think there are a lot of those behind the wheel of a car that are worse now too. :|

My neighbor owns a small trucking company, and he pretty much agrees with Dave, he would like to retire as soon as his 2 daughters are out of school, because of the bad driving (truckers especially)

I do have to say that there are some of the rotten eggs out there that can't drive like normal people. Another thing that has put a hamper on some of the drivers is that the trucks have goveners on them. And because of that it can be a pain to pass another truck that is governed out at the same speed. There is one contract that I might be driving for that states "No truck will drive faster then 55 on any road or highway." This means on the highway that I will be driving on has a speed limit of 70 I am sposed to only go 55. No matter what. I think it's a joke, but then again, it falls under what people think about truck drivers and driving too fast. I think it causes a larger mess then what it helps.

You also have to remember that truckers have seen all kinds of traffic and idiots on the road. And they feel they must do something to take care of that problem. Once I got my Class B (single unit no trailer) 8 years ago I learned what they had to deal with. I have much more respect for the truck driver then I ever did before. And now that I have my Class A (any combonation) I know even more. If people where more respectfull on the road, then I am sure it wouldn't be like it is now. And if you remember the old UNION problems of the 70's and early 80's you would also under stand where they are coming from.

I am not saying that all truck drivers should be kings of the road. But maybe if people understood them better it wouldn't be like what it is now.

Ok, rant and deffencive mode off...

The trouble is the U.S.'s method of obtaining a driver's license.

Drive around a parking lot and get a free license. No merging, no interstate driving required at all, no dealing with traffic, no checking to see if people use turn signals properly while in traffic, dealing with rights-of-way. It's a joke.

Hmmm...to get back on topic...maybe I could run for office and effect a change?

HA...pipe dream

I don't know what it's like there. But all our driving tests are done on the open road. No course here. *shrug*

Same here, Conjur. We have to take a driving test around town, checking for the things you mentioned, traffic, lights, signals, merging, etc., as well as the "manuverability" test in the parking lot.

And after paying for the driving "school" (helps with insurance), the fee to take the test, the fee to get the license, and insurance, I would hardly call the drivers license here "free".

Maybe things are changing here in KY but I don't believe they are. I will have to look into it for sure. Esp. since my oldest turns 16 next year! :Q

Well...ended up being an HR screener call. They'll forward my skills list on to the manager and hopefully I'll hear from them soon re:a technical interview.

At least there is some activity. Let's get this economy out of park and at least into first gear

Wish the post was filled by someone from on here.

On a hopefully bright note for the Tech sector, Lucent gained 11 percent today to $1.85 and Nortel to $2.27. The reason it is big news is because they did nothing to cause the uptick. Personally I don't know what they did to cause the stock to go from $60 to 6 cents, I bought the Lucent stock at $60 :Q . At least the stock is now worth more than the piece of paper it was printed on.

Anybody have any connections within the Raleigh / Durham area of NC?

+25 weeks of unemployment

I've done:
3 years managing a technical writing department (software) on contract for IBM
7 years of technical and marketing writing

most of the jobs I've applied for went to people "with connections"
Maybe I'll ask for Santa for some "connections" this year.
