just a thought, would it help those who know of jobs if we had a list (maybe dnetmhz could add it to his page) of those of us looking for a job, the location(s) we are looking in, and the type of job we are looking for, and contact info?

If people are concerned about privacy, we could password protect access to the webpage somehow, or throw it on one of the off-site forums and set it to private.

That might help those who know of job positions match up with someone looking for a job.

Just a thought....

Sounds like a good idea to me, what does everyone else think? (the password protected site should not be a problem to set up)

Are you fluent in Japanese? I know someone who's looking for a tech. writer fluent in Japanese in Cary. She was also looking for a QA tester(again, Japanese language skill is required).

Thanks to the AT Mods for stickying the thread. Hopefully soon we'll start hearing some good news that someone has landed a job through the Networking here, that would be awesome especially in these tough times.

There is a new Lowes being built in St. Charles IL roughly at 64 and Randal. Not sure on ETA. Probably within the month. Just in case anyone wants to compete with me

Unexpected??? Who is paying these so called analysists? They are obviously incompetent and should be fired from their jobs

Unemployment Rate Unexpectedly Surges
28 minutes ago Add Business - AP to My Yahoo!

By LEIGH STROPE, AP Labor Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) - The nation's unemployment rate unexpectedly shot up to 6.0 percent in November, the highest level since a peak almost nine years ago when the country was struggling to emerge from the last recession.

The report, released Friday by the Labor Department (news - web sites), portrayed a bleak snapshot of the U.S. economy at a time when many analysts had thought that rock bottom days for job seekers were behind them. Analysts were expecting a slight increase from the 5.7 percent posted in October.

U.S. companies also slashed 40,000 jobs in November, the most since nine months ago, when 165,000 jobs were cut. Economists had forecast modest job growth for last month.

November's jobless rate was matched back in April, and it was the highest since July 1994, when the rate topped 6.1 percent.

Friday's report surprised analysts, who thought the unemployment rate might tick up to 5.8 percent for November with stabilizing layoffs and fewer workers seeking unemployment benefits in recent weeks.

That had created optimism for the holiday shopping season ? a hope that workers were lining up at cash registers rather than at unemployment offices. Consumer spending accounts for two-thirds of all economic activity in the United States and has been the main force keeping the economy going all year.

Low mortgage rates, tax cuts, and extra cash coming from a refinancing boom have helped to support consumer spending, offsetting some negative factors, including the roller-coaster stock market, a possible war and a string of corporate scandals.

Still, economists did not expect companies to go on a hiring spree. In the face of the struggling recovery and economic uncertainties, companies are keeping their work forces lean.

The report showed that employment in the nation's factories continued to decline, with a loss of 45,000 jobs last month. Hiring also was down in retail, mostly because of weak hiring during a time that stores typically build up work forces for the holiday shopping rush.

Countering those job losses was an overall hiring increase in services. Health-related companies made up more than half of the November increase, with notable gains in hospitals and nursing facilities. But employment in temporary employment firms ? an industry where hiring had been on the upswing for much of the year ? fell for the second month in a row. Such employment is closely watched by economists because companies often seek temporary help as their businesses start growing again instead of taking on full-time workers.

Other major industries showed little change last month, including construction and government, which had a large gain in October.

Baldy18-

I know you posted that you recently got a job installing cable but I thought I'd drop this job posting in front of your nose. I'm not sure if KZoo is more of a commute that you'd like but I know it's down in your neck of the "MI" woods. Of course anyone in the South West Michigan area should take a look see.

CPR is a technical services firm that has been in the GR area for a while now and just recently bought a training facility/firm in the KZoo area as well. Once onboard, most likely any candidate would have the opportunity to pursue just about any facet within IT...they do it all.

Good Luck everyone,

Osmo.

Osmo is correct - "CPR" is a fairly decent company and I know a few of the technicians who work there.

Looks like a pretty cool job. I might consider it but I don't think I'd like to relocate to K-zoo. Plus this is my third job since July and right now I really don't want to change again. So far this is going good for me so I think I'll keep with it. Someone else should jump on that job though.

Thanks Steve!

I think you're right Matt, if you're gonna relocate anywhere, it may as well be to Grand Rapids so you're in the neighborhood.

I'm happy to report that after being laid off on the 20th of Nov. I just got a job with the School Dist. here, I start on the 26th.
Definetly not IT related, but the pay is OK and the bennys are good. It's a nite job , so I will still be able to look for something else.

anyway, I know it sucks to be out of work but hang in and don't lose hope. If a dipstick like me can get work there is hope for you .

Congrats on getting gainfully employed, thanks for posting in here. People getting jobs whether through any networking from here or not is an indicator of how things are going out there.

If there are any Electrical Control Engineers out there PLEASE PM me! - my own job may be at stake:Q if we can't fill a few open seats. We have work coming out of our ears but not enough engineers to do it so we're turning down projects. :Q which means no CAD work for me

**Background in Process Controls or any other automation experience is probably prefered/needed.

**PLC programming isn't neccesarily required but would be considered a plus (we mainly use Allen-Bradley but do use a wide variety of other brands depending on the application and customer)

PM ME!!!

Oh yeah - DesMoines, Iowa is the Location

We have tons of engineering work and such but most of the projects we are currently involved with don't have much CAD work if any but the projects we have to turn-down have quite a bit of CAD. go figure

Oh well - I'll survive

Wish I lived over the CKG, I used to design as well as program large scale CNC equipment as well as all the support and peripheral equipment feeding and offloading on the line by PLC.
