It's exciting to think about the team concentrating on one project again.
I will be able to participate on a limited, though enthusiastic basis.
My sister called from Tennessee this past Sunday, 02/13. My father, who is 91 and lives not far from her, was admitted to the hospital and is not expected to be able to return home. He has anywhere from a few days to a few weeks, depending on how aggressive the cancer is. If he makes it until April 24, he will be 92. He has lived a rich and rewarding life. I will be traveling to Tennessee from Washington soon to be with him.
I bought a laptop to take with me to use on my studies while I am gone. Before yesterday evening I thought that I would turn off all my crunchers so that I wouldn't have to worry about the small possibility of a fire while I am away. However, one of my machines has a pretty good GPU (nVidia GeForce 9800 GT, thanks to Rudy Toody), and it has performed quite well on Primegrid. I may leave it running. The machine does not get very hot. I can access it remotely, and as long as I restart it every day or two, nothing should interfere with that access. So, until I get back to town, I'll be running Primegrid or, perhaps, another GPU project. I tried out Einstein on that machine, and it ran with no problem. It may do well on other projects as well. I tried out the laptop on Simap, and it was fine, but it got very hot, so I am reluctant to want to crunch very much with it.
My family would appreciate some good vibes sent our way during this time. I'm not a very religious person, but I do believe in God and the power of prayer.
Crunch on!
