TeamAnandtech.com new features wanted

Well, after talking with Mika for a bit, he's interested on adding some more features to the site, and wants your ideas. So, if you want to have the chance to get something added to TA.com, here's your chance. Put down your ideas in a thread here, and I'll go through them and ship them off to Mika next weekend. Please, remember to keep them decent(there will be no ta.com pron server guys), and fessable. Oh, and from Mika, myself, and the rest of the TA.com team, thanks for the ideas.

I have some ideas I'll kick around for a day or so. This should be interesting. One I can volunteer right off the top of my head is a "hardware pool" database where we can post spare necessities like a homeless floppy drive, NICs, CPUs, RAM, mobos and such. More to come, stay tuned.

I would have to agree to mechBgon here. That would be an AWSOME idea. Someplace to kinda "trade" hardware. But I kinda like the word homeless in this fasion. If there needs to be some help on something like this. I am volenteering.

One other thing I would like to see is an "the team" area. Maybe we could have some kinda pics of who each person is. Maybe we could work together with that other site (can't think of it off the top of my head) to get the pics connected or something.

I will have to think of some others..... But it's 4AM here. And I need sleep......

The stats idea is good to.

How about a Cracker of the Week or Month (depending on time constraints) column for each of the projects, where they are &quot;interviewed&quot; about how they got started, what they are doing now, background, pics of them and their herds, etc..

How about supplementing the FAQS? I noticed that Jerry took his site down and he had alot of good FAQ info there...

Plus, once Adul is ready with his ini-creators, a direct link to that (or even a move of that functionality to teamanandtech.com) would be a very good thing!

The homeless hardware for sure, though the best place for that may be here in the forums. Would there be any value in a Team savings account? For those that don't need any hardware to swap, they could &quot;sell&quot; hardware to a teammate with the proceeds going to the account. Money could be used for upgrades to the stats box, game box, advertising, software or other worthy projects. I'm not sure how that stuff is financed now, but it doesn't seem fair for a few members to have to pay for that stuff.

It would also be nice to have a stats summary page that shows where TA stands on a daily and overall basis in all of our projects--if not daily due to manual updates, perhaps weekly.

Last but not least, can we get a feature to change our password--I neglected to back mine up before my last C: and can't remember what is is. Do you email Mika to get it resent? Hate to bother him....

Not a bad idea. You would be near, or at, the top the currently list! Since this is a percentage of change, it would impossible to maintain a lead. Unless you are Denni, of course! (But, he's on a team.) Probably the the Weekly Stats on Mika's would be as good an incentive since one's lead, or ranking, could be more easily maintained.

Like mechBgon's idea of the Spare Parts Database.

ok, so my forums idea didnt receive any comments..

ive decided forums are bad and detract from the wonderful irc channel.. so how about a nice JAVA irc client right near the main page? i get most of my news and interaction from the IRC channel, and it would be nice to get some more participation..

so JAVA irc client and maybe some more information about the IRC channel, like a link to the irc channel stats homepage, an FAQ about it, etc..

also, some sort of &quot;contest&quot; area would be fun, especially if we could think of a way to make it equally fair for people with more computers cracking, etc.. like some sort of average program or something.. number of keys/tnodes / mhz or something ..

also, something like ACRO for irc would be great.. i remember back in the day playing ACROmania making funky acronyms out of random letter combinations..

Do you think there is any way we could try to get the old TA.com member map up? The worldwide, zoom-in, zoom-out map!
I for one thought it was pretty awesome and need to look and see where everyone was from geomagraphically

A button that will moo for you! YES! And how about a counter that shows how many people are currently in the IRC channel (I don't know how hard/easy/impossible that would be ). I was thinking along the lines of RaySun2Be's idea for &quot;Cracker of the Week/Month&quot; but also, how about this one:

We could have a form that registered users can fill out, with info ranging from name, age and occupation to &quot;favorite thing about being on TA&quot; and maybe an area for favorite dessert recipie... or who-knows-what. Along with that, they can submit a photo in a standardized size, .JPG format (I can help with this part if necessary, got some good software for it).

Once someone has reviewed the info to make sure everything is suitable for viewing (no prank stuff), it can be added to a database and we can have a rotating &quot;Featured Teammate&quot; on the page, in the fashion that AnandTech itself has a Featured Article.

This idea, along with the crackrack-parts database, are a couple items that I think would be traffic-builders. Everyone will enjoy being the Featured Teammate when their turn comes, and check frequently to see who is up for the day.

More ideas cookin'. Keep them coming, people!

the profile page w/ pics is good.. as long as it doesn't resemble www.ratemyface.com .... Is this thread only for RC5 ppl? I'm a alien tracker myself.. does this apply to us too? It'd be nice to see ppl and their environments maybe.. like.. it makes a difference when you know that someone you're commucating with is 50 or 25, you know? male or female? Like I always thought of Adul as a girl.. so I kind of had a crush on him..

Hey, Poof, which FAQs did you have in mind? I've been neglecting them lately, but I seem to have some time again to work on the FAQs and I was wondering what areas you all think need updating/expanding...

Also, my own suggestion for improvements ...

Change the initial startup page to point to the news page. Our introduction page is pretty anemic and I know that the news is something I check out whenever I go to the team page...

Along the lines of Jarhead's idea, how about a way to see where you rank just among those who joined the project when you did or later? I think it would be a good motivator. People joining the project now could still have a way to rank high within a comparable group.
