Teammates who suck

So I got put on this project for a work training program with one guy who is really awesome and another girl who is completely fucking useless. I honestly try so hard to find something she can do, but she sucks at everything. She can't code. She can't design systems or databases (she is supposed to become a DBA...). So, I try to find skills she has, research, project management, documentation, etc. but she can't even do that properly (not just my opinion, the other guy agrees). So, I break the problem down to the easiest possible level and draw out piece by piece what needs to be done, but still no results we can depend on. It's like a constant baby sitting job the whole project. Now that we are almost finished and working on our presentation, she keeps bitching about how we don't listen to her presentation ideas. Well, that's probably because you didn't do anything but sit on your ass and text your boyfriend the entire project. All of your ideas make no god damn sense.

The thing that pisses me off the most is she is making good money for three weeks of doing absolutely nothing. Someone who is worth a damn should replace her in this type of economy...

Anyone else have to put up with people like this? What do? I can deal with people who are difficult, at least they usually can do what you ask once you convince them... but people who are completely worthless to the project and then start bitching about it drive me crazy.

Get used to this. This isn't ever going to change no matter where you go unless you are completely self-employed and maintained (highly unlikely).

How you react to this kind of stress is actually quite important. Are you the kind of person that unravels and flips out, or do you remain calm and handle the situation with maturity? You want to always be the latter no matter what the situation.

Remember your WORK environment is a completely different landscape than other things in your life. Never let things get personal at work. Trust me on this, it solves nothing and only serves to hurt you.

I did once but the revenge was sweet.

I was a warehouse manager and we had a last min order come in that was massive, 26,000 items and worth maybe $400,000 - 500,000(probably one of the 5 biggest orders i ever picked at that warehouse).

The timeline was impossible, came in on a thursday afternoon and they wanted it packaged and shipped by monday morning(we were not open weekends). This order would usualy take 4-6 work days to pick process and package for shipping. I talked 1 of my guys into coming in on the weekend to get it done with me and my team leader. We put in 14 hours each day friday, saturday, and sunday and just barely got it done due to the one guy being completly useless.

The useless guy i had wanted to fire for months but was waiting for a really good reason and a good replacement, i only had him help with this order because he was the only one who would come in on the weekend out of my 7 order pickers.

Anyways he cried because it was summer and 35-40c in the warehouse and he was slow as hell and kept complaining he didnt want to pick the order but package and label it and get the shipping documents ready. Which BTW is way way way easier than picking the order, basically he wanted to sit down and do nothing while me and the team leader did 90%+ of the work. Finally about half way through friday i caved and said you know what fuck it you do whatever you want im losing too much time dealing with this idiot i need to get this shit done or my job could be on the line. So me and the team leader hauled ass and got it done, and even had to help package it and label it at the end because idiot boy couldnt even do the easy job fast enough because he was on his phone too much.

I was pissed for weeks about that and was about to fire the idiot as i had a replacement lined up now. Then literally the day i was going to fire the idiot the operations manager came up to me and said the customer was very pleased with out work on that huge order and our ability to get it done fast and had decided to use our company from now on and we had scored a multi million dollar account because of it. He said he was giving me $5000 as a bonus to distribute to all the people who helped get that order ready to go including myself(he thought we had alot more than the 3 of us working on it, which we would have needed if we didnt pull 14 hour days). He literally handed me $5000 cash in 100's and said here you go distibute it as you see fit.

So i called the team leader and the idiot into my office to discuss the bonus distribution, i decided that the most fair way to do it was divide it by pieces picked, get a percentage and then divide it up. So since the idiot picked nothing and me and the team leader picked it all together i gave team leader $2500 and i kept the other $2500 and gave the idiot nothing. He quit on the spot so i didnt need to fire him

Yeah, no shit. One of the directors here is one of the most clueless idiots I've ever met and has no business being an IT Director. Just about any one of the employees would do a better job, but this director is female (big PC points here) and a buddy of the big boss.

I remember my previous job. We had a PM for the integration team. They programmed PLCs and did field work. The guy had no experience doing either....working with him was painful....
