Tech Brands You Stay Loyal To For Odd Reasons?

Are there are technology Brands you stay loyal to not because they have great performance or price but because of some reason 99% of people don't care about?

For example, I have only bought Intel CPUs for a decade. There many good reasons to do that maybe, but I avoid AMD because I never know if I need to put it in a hackintosh down the line. AMD and hackintoshes aren't fun. Also I really only buy Nvidia GPUs mostly because I know they have a good Linux driver and I might need that one day.

What about you?

Interesting topic. I'd have to think about the answer though.

I think I'm now pretty agnostic. Except that weird desire to have things on Steam.

I'm not usually loyal to a brand for more than a generation of a product line because things change and value is important to me, but I still tend to buy Intel for SSDs when I need a reliable drive.

Which isn't odd except I think there isn't as much differentiation now in terms of reliability among SSD manufacturers, unlike the early days where you could maybe get an SSD with an iffy controller.

I'm not THAT loyal, though, a lot comes down to price, and for CPUs I've bought more AMD CPUs than Intel (AMD has been price competitive at the low end and decent for video encoding, which used to be a priority for me), though my next build is going to be a Skylake based one.

I've got pretty good reasons for most of my other (temporary, shifting) loyalties.

I'm pretty loyal to Apple for some reason. Maybe I was brainwashed. Every computing device that we own is made by Apple:

Me: 12-inch MacBook (2015), iPhone 6s
Wife: 13-inch rMBP (2014), iPhone 6s
Son: iPad Mini 2

They aren't cheap, they aren't always the fastest or most practical (my MacBook), but something illogically draws me to Apple.

One product does threaten to pull me back into the Windows fray, though: the Surface Book

Nothing silly about buying Intel; they're just better. Same with Nvidia. For as friendly to GNU/Linux as AMD is, their video drivers suck; both libre and proprietary. Nvidia just works.

AMD, their Video Cards are competitive, often even the better choice, but on the CPU side they have been weak in comparison to Intel for quit awhile now. I still go AMD though, because if they left the Market, we'd all be hosed.

Intel for CPUs. Had an AMD way back when, was okay.

Canon for cameras, but my primary is Sony, so both now.

Logitech and Microsoft for keyboard/mice.

Samsung for TVs.

Maglite for flashlights.

Nokia

They made the first GOOD cell phone I ever had.
And the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.

Motorola made the first rugged phone I owned. And the first GOOD android.

Microsoft for phones they seem to spy on you in a less creepy manner
Next GPU will likely be NVIDIA, my last card from them made me happy. Not saying my past & present ati/amd cards were bad they're simply good value cards but nothing to be excited about

I run this crappy operating system called "Microsoft Windows", simply because it has the most applications, hardware support and games. It's not very polished or efficient or user-friendly, but it works. I'd much rather use something else like MorphOS.

I have only ever bought GM cars, with one exception. These days it's a bit of a moot point since often cars of international origin are still built in North America, but not too long ago this wasn't the case. At one point I was shopping for my first car and did some quick math - a car that costs $21k is enough cash to pay 1 person $10/hr for 40 hrs a week for 1 yr. I couldn't bring myself to send that money overseas, even knowing that this isn't how transactions or pay works in real life.

Nexus phones. I'd say until the 6, previous ones had some major flaws in them.

any reasons i stay brand loyal are logical, so no. i don't care about brands in general, i just get what tool is necessary to get the job done.

I am pretty much the same.

I have brands that I tend to use over others, such as Intel CPUs. At the same time, I used a AMD processor for my MAME machine because it was absolutely a better fit for that application. It would have been silly to buy Intel just for brand loyalty in that case.

I flip / flop between Nvidia and AMD for GPUs depending on what performance I can get for whatever my budget is. I never had an issue running Hackintosh or Linux with either one, but maybe I'm not a power user in either of those areas (I haven't run OSX on anything but a Mac for awhile now).

I guess the only ones that really come to mind are Crucial for memory and Logitech for mouse / keyboard. Although I am not locked into those brands, they are pretty much what I always end up using. Those darkfield laser mice are the shit.

I didn't think that I had any irrational loyalties until you posted this. I am a GM fanboi - Chevy, GMC, Olds, Caddies...

Just can't drive a Ford even though they were the only company that didn't take a handout during the collapse. I tried to like them, but then I made a GM booty call.

I only have a landline and use AT&T. I am going to try Uber for a month so I need a cell phone.

Samsung sticks out for me. I've had Samsung cell phones forever - with the exception of my first one. I also own two Samsung TV's, and was a major fan of the old Samsung SpinPoint HD's. I've had zero issues with all of these devices. On one occasion I had to deal with Samsung customer service because I couldn't figure out a HD configuration I was looking for. I didn't have to wait on hold for 35 minutes to get someone I can't understand a word of what they're saying. Called, got English speaking human, problem solved in less than 10 minutes. Samsung -

There aren't any tech brands I'm loyal to. I've stuck with some longer since they are simply the fastest and of best quality at the moment. There are companies I avoid. Those being Dell and Apple.

I prefer Dell IPS monitors over most other monitors. Otherwise, I typically just buy the best product in my desired price range. Over the past 10 years or so, that's been mostly Intel and NVidia but I have owned several AMD CPUs and several ATI/AMD Radeons as well.

Intel, Nvidia, Apple, Samsung, Logitech, Western Digital, Crucial...just a few that come to mind.

I'm not to the point where I WONT buy anything but these brands but they are my top choice I guess you could say.

OH, i was loyal to AMD because they made CPU's a much better deal for the money and for a brief period were also just plain better.

Kept buying them long after they lost their huge advantage. Am now back on Intel.

I've had an annoying brand loyalty to Apple lately, mostly because my family has had a bad track record with Android phones from Samsung and LG. They start out great, and then Verizon pushes an Android update on them that screws everything up.

Kinda pisses me off, because I shouldn't have to pay twice as much for an Apple phone just to get something that's stable.
