Just a FYI but there have been 25% off coupon codes available for the last 5 or so months, at least thats as long as I have been watching them. Retailmenot has them listed, including some older, higher % codes that no longer work.

Still, for those unaware they exist this is a good reminder. I have been holding out for a larger discount and will probably jump if/when a 40% or more comes back around.

Thanks for the info Spike. I remember seeing older deals here but haven't seen any recent ones. I wasn't aware there were so many codes for Technet.

P.S. Thanks for introducing me to retailmenot.

That deal will never come back. Not without some sort of control process at least. They intended it for students. But because they didn't require any sort of verification other than checking a box that said "I am a student", it was abused greatly (hell, I would've if I would've had the 99 at the time). I would think that IF it came back it would be attached to a system similar to dreamspark.com where you have to verify that you are a student (or at least have a .edu address).

But still, $261 is akiller deal for what you get.

Can't wait for a cheaper deal.
This is good enough for me and like dodger2020 said.
$261 is a killer deal for what you get.

Thanks op!

Hmmm, how have I not heard of this. Question for those of you in the know... If I sign up for Technet, does that give me access to all of the stuff listed so long as it is not in production use? Also, would I be able to download MS Windows 7 and use at home without any restrictions, etc? It seems to say that, but I don't want to sign up if all I'm doing is violating copyright laws anyway.

Any extra information would be greatly appreciated. Just seems to good to be true as I have a test lab environment at home and don't really like the idea of running pirated software on it. (Also don't like the idea of spending 100s of dollars for different copies of server, etc.) If this gets me past that, I would be really .

I have MSDN through work and it sounds similar to this. Basically my understanding is the product keys are intended for test or development use. I know people use them at home. I would certainly think a business using MSDN/Technet keys for Windows Server 2008 would be violating the TOS, but I don't know if using Windows 7 at home for non-business purposes is a violation.

My understanding with MSDN is that the keys are always legit to WGA even after your membership expires.

That would've been my second question. Very good to know!

I did read through their FAQs, and it seems to suggest that non-production use only. My real concern is that, being a LAN admin, and in a company with few resources to always stay 100% up with MS Windows OSs, having a non-production environment (at home), which I can use to test and compare, would allow me to learn the software to prepare to implement it in a corporate environment, at which point in time, my company would purchase the required software licenses, CALs, etc.

I discussed with my co-workers, and after some deliberation, we can't see that being in violation as I would not be using it for financial gain, just personal learning/testing in a home environment. If I started to sell photos that I stored on that network, then I would figure I would be in violation of their rules, AFAICT. If someone has better information that this, please let me know. I am quite sure my company would fit the bill if it allows me to use things like server 2008, and bring back advances that would be worth implementing.

Windows 7 full version is available for immediate download, I have no idea if it's the ultimate version but I assume so.

I got this the last time this deal came around, and its completely worth the money. I have 7 ultimate on my desktop and laptop.

I plan on selling my laptop, does anyone know if i have to delete 7 i got off technet, and put vista back on, or can i just sell it with 7 on it.

Deleting it and reinstalling Vista would be a good way to guarantee there's no data fragments with confidential info or saved passwords that you would transfer to the new owner by accident.

This one I think is a straightforward no according to their documents. The software is for your testing, and your testing alone. Selling a system with the software on it would be turning your license over to someone else, which, as I read, is not within your rights to do if you received the software from Technet. Simply put, it'd be the same as you starting up a business and building PCs and loading every single one with software you received from Technet, if that were the case, a lot of small repair shops would just sign-up and distribute that software... instead, they sell OEM copies.

Turning over the software that came with the laptop, on the other hand, is completely within your right to do.
