Why delay something if you already have it, I assume, ready/built? Release it now, garner sales until VR releases. When VR releases, bundle it.

This seems like a backwards reason to delay a product, again I assume, you already have ready.

I think the real story is that its simply not finished. Manpower and money issue.

I personally find that hard to believe. Didn't they already show boards of it? The only thing I can assume is a factor in it not being ready is the cooling apparatus.

And I read in another thread - they cancelled Project Quantum? I always thought that was just some kind of prototype/concept to promote their products.

Did we ever see final boards or just prototypes?

Quantum was a horrible disaster from the start. Another project that was just a waste of money. And first now we are close to get the fabled DP to HDMI 2.0 connector that this living room device so desperately needed.

I remember seeing boards during that E3 event. Whether they were woodscrewed or not, I wouldn't know. I'm just going on the info I've seen.

Also, didn't AMD-DICE guy (sorry forgot his name) teased he had one? (Or at least a leaking one?)

I just assumed by then to now AMD had the thing finished. It's been almost 6 months since they started talking about it.

Obvious prototypes. And if testing found new issues/bugs its back to the drawing board.

There isn't any reason not to release it, besides its simply not ready. Its plain simple. Either its finished and they release or its not. The VR part is just PR BS to excuse the delay.

Maybe one reason for the delay? Wonder if the leak was caused by a manufacturing error or a packaging error... (Packaging engineers get paid way too much money!)

Welps, until further info, one can only speculate. If it isn't ready, woof, what has AMD been doing?

Reminds me, did they ever show the Quantum actually working? I believed that too had dual Fiji's.

Yeah, why I guessed only thing I could think of was they were having cooling issues.

There's enough reason to delay it when Anandtech's chief editor tells them that they'll get a bad review based on the state of AFR.

Dual Fiji was always meant to be a VR card.

The Quantum had 1 single card.

Doing some quick Google, they "claimed" the Quantum shown during the E3 was dual Fiji.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NZSq5i8lUJI

EDIT: Here it is again mentioned as dual fiji, and this time from Lisa Su herself:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J7cZzUlxnqU

But the only break down I found, did only have one Fiji. I recall seeing another break down (closer to announcement, one done by AMD themselves, can't find the video.)

Most likely the reviews will read the same, if you ask me. "These's pros, these's cons, but ultimately, this product is best when used with VR."

So, now AMD is selling a product towards a market which doesnt exist and nobody knows how good their implementation will be.

This statement is just an excuse. It was never advertised towards the VR crowd.

Really grasping for straws here. 2/10.

VR isn't here yet... because they havent released yet. AMD hasn't advertised a card that hasn't released yet.... because they haven't released it yet.

Water is also wet, and the sky is blue.

I'm here all week.

Game developers working on Oculus ready games have all stated that AMD has the best VR implementation. This is why Oculus has partnered with AMD to provide the GPU for their headset. This GPU will be released to coincide with the Oculus Rift release.

And HTC is working with nVidia. I guess makes them a better solution than AMD. :sneaky:
