So all week I hit refresh regularly to see if Newegg got any more of the ASROCK C602 motherboards in stock. On Friday, just about the last thing I did before leaving work to go home was hit refresh one more time. Surely it wouldn't show up in stock at about 5pm EST when it wasn't there the last time I checked - perhaps an hour or two prior?
It did. Took me a second to realize my luck, that the add to cart button was there. So, I bought it - the $309 model ASRock EP2C602-4L/D16, and it immediately was out of stock. Perhaps they only got one in. Anyway, it is in the mail.
I got 2 * e5-2670 for $122 shipped, and just got 16*4gb DDR ECC registered 1.35 volt ram for $80 shipped. I would have gotten just 32 gigs of ram, but am worried that a stick could break in the future. So rather than pay like $40 for 8 sticks and if something breaks I'll need to hunt down matching ram, or like $60 for 9 sticks to have one extra, I figured I'd just get 16 sticks and if something breaks I'll run on 32 gigs (and sell some of the working sticks to those poor folks looking for matching ram).
Case. Need a E-ATX case, and I like the Fractal Design XL R2. $130. Cooling. I decided that rather than blow warm air around the case with a regular heatsink, I should get warm air out of the case with AIO watercoolers. The Fractal can fit a 240mm radiator on the top, and a 140mm radiator on the back. So splurged on a Corsair H90 140mm radiator, and the cheapest 240mm I could get (Enermax). Both were on sale $150 total after rebates. Next up is a USB 3 card, and Windows Pro $75 total.
I'll be re-using my power supply, video card and SSD/HD. Looks like it will be at least a week before everything gets here and I can start building.
CAN'T WAIT!
