Daz, how big is it, I'll see what I can scrounge up.

CAD, I think that they were just airing what the AG's office said. At least it doesn't sound like anything they made up.

Virge - but why did they even air it? It seems to me that the "media" is supposed to report what is TRUE. Most of the time they check up on the validity of statements before airing them. In this case it seems that either: A- someone dropped the ball or B- the gov't made them to put it in (maybe not directly told them to but you know where I'm going with it)

I may be just a tad more synical about the gov't control of the media than most of America's sheeple, but I've seen it time and time again where they use the media to influence public opinion using Lies! TechTV may be a good station and have good intensions but it still seems to me that they should tell the whole story because now everyone who saw the clip will now believe that Dave deliberately broke the law.

Dave - I'm sorry the piece wasn't as truthful as it should/could have been. Hopefully someday justice will be served in your case as this may just be the starting block.

Oh and i'd still like to see it

That little saying they said at the end when they got comments from the Attorney General's Office that I was told repeatedly to not download the software is a complete fabrication, how can they get away with such lies?

Who was the putz that said it? Personal civil liability. Think $$$

Since the thing is pretty-much settled, you likely can sue for defamation of character, and slander - though technically it'd be libel since it's media, though unwritten.

Sue the pieces of sh!t. :|

I've just finished recording the segment. It's about 5 minutes. It's currently a 753MB file (I like lossless compression when capturing). I'll start squishing it with divx in a few hours.

Edit: Didn't notice daz's message. Oh well. If he has problems with the file, we'll have another source at least.

they say they didn't even know what Distributed.Net is and they felt it was criminal technology and they were going to go after them after they were through with me.
That's just wrong. But then again, these people seem to hate information technology, so I guess it's only consistent.

Regarding the parting shot by the Georgia AG's office: "
"

Glad your story is going to get some further airtime, however, David!

Encoding is complete (wow! divx 5 is a lot faster than 3). I've got 2 versions. They're both 15fps. One is 160x120 and 6.26MB. The other is 320x240 and 11.3MB. Server anyone? (my site doesn't have the space or bandwidth)

My ISP gives me up to 10MB of web space, but I'm not sure if they'd frown on me hosting copyrighted content recorded off a satelite or not. If it weren't for that "issue," I'd be glad to host the low-bandwidth version for ya.

I've decided to host it on my cable modem for a few hours. Cheap download page at link removed I'll keep it up until 10:00AM central time or whenever the ISP craps outs.

Just noticed you'll actually need to right-click and save as. Server software doesn't do MIME types.

Edit: I've shut down the server now. If you want to download it, look at Lucky's message below.

What a flakey piece of crap that was. Even if they got it wrong they could have at least tried to tell the whole story.

Thanks for putting it up BitSpit.

I only got about 35k from a mirror...I'm on a campus where I can get upwards of about 800k/sec, baring any problems on the other end.

sorry about the slower speeds, cant do much about it. (but thank for reporting speeds, this is the first time I've really tested it). But Hell, I only paid $4/year for hosting so who cares? The original link was only 12kbps.

edit: and I agree, that story was CRAP. dont do journalism if you are going to do it half-assed. Or maybe the editor was squeezed for airtime so he cut some of it out, who knows.

Thanks for the encoding and download guys!

Just watched it. David came off very well on camera. On balance, though the story was slanted just like every story that's been done surrounding this situation - overall though it was pretty good I thought.

Despite the fact that they LIED about the situation, consider the fact that these people live their lives lying. They become so pathological that they fail to even recognize that a lie is a lie. Media is just the mouthpiece for the government. The story could have been done much better, and been more balanced by far, but it's a social problem more than anything else. "Journalistic ethics" are as much an oxymoron as "Governmental ethics" and should be so recognized. If you want a good example of it, watch "Worlds Wildest Police Videos". Notice the not-so-subtle line that pretty much reads "Don't mess with us, we'll get you every time" crap. Total propoganda, and incredibly transparent to anyone with an I.Q. above room-temperature.

Couldn't help but pick up on the bit about how no one from the AG's office would comment. Gutless pukes. :|

Good job David! - a follow up story with the locals would be a good thing if they'll tell the truth about it. (don't hold your breath)

In the final analysis, my opinion hasn't changed a bit. This was nothing more than a stab at frying somebody for headlines by meaningless little people that are technologically inept, trying to make themselves feel important. In typical government fashion - they simply lie to cover up their utterly shameful ineptitude.

I give it a thumb and a finger. One marginal thumb up for TechTV's attempt at covering the story - though it could have been done ALOT better, it ended up being just another story by the liberal-biased media to spout the government propoganda line.

One middle finger for the GBI, The AG's office, and especially the spineless little maggot that tried to stick to David while spewing his hateful garbage about the forums and the McOwen forum. I notice they didn't bother to cover how the AG's office and the GBI committed crimes during the "investigation". These people have got to be the lamest excuse for law enforcement that I've ever witnessed. Bah. :|

Hi Dan, thanks everyone for the digitizing.

I will e-mail them at TechTV but I do not believe they would object to the posts of their story. This type of media is not the RIAA. The Silicon Spin segment has been posted since it aired, I'm sure they are happy to see their wares about the Internet as it is free advertising for their product.

Attention Atlantans, Channel 11 the NBC affiliate just left the house and they said the story will air on the 5 pm news. Unfortunately as you said Dan they seemed to want to slant in any direction they could for the State's side. I hope they do not leave out this time the importance of all of the the support from here and the Internet Community. The reporter was Deiah Riley, I pointed out to her the Video segment from last night as she had not seen it yet and she could download the DIVX decoder for free to see it on her PC, she said she would be afraid to download anything on her work PC. I asked her if it is OK that she have such a fear of the Computer and the Internet is the way she believes it should be and she said yes! I said that is so sad that even in the Industry she is in or any industry for that matter that people are afraid to use the tool mankind has at our fingertips. The Government/RIAA and Big Corporate has been successful in completely brainwashing of the general public and the media.
