Hunting is usually legal in state/federal forests and BLM land, but almost never in state/federal parks.

Out west, I don't think anyone uses tree stands for deer hunting. Everyone walks around...hunting for the deer.

(unfortunately, too many of them walk around half-drunk while carrying the rifle...)

Actually, people do use stands here. I've seen them.

OK <shrug> I haven't hunted since we moved to Kahleeforneeya. Too many fucking morons in them-thar hills...BUT, I used to hunt every year when we lived in Washington, Idaho, and Wyoming...and never knew of anyone using a tree-stand. Some would set up "blinds" along known deer trails, but most were just "wandering hunters" who actually hunted for the deer. (hunt areas that are prone to attract deer, known trails, etc.)

Since no one has asked yet...does this mean Nugent has lost his status as the Master Baiter?

People play semantics here.

What is really considered hunting.

1. Baiting with food?
2. How about deer calls and rattling?
3. Using a tree stand is not hunting?
4. how about drives(bunch of dudes walking through the woods pushing deer towards the hunters)?

#4 reminds me of the story about Sven and Torsk...two Swedish deer hunters in Minnee-sota...

Dey ver out hunting deers von day, and after spending a few hours lookink fer dose deers, Sven decides it's time for something different.

"Torsk, I'll go up der hill and start chasing dem deers down the hill. You vait right heer and choot dem ven dey come out of da draw."

"OK Sven," said Torsk. "I kin doo dat."

Well, while Torsk is waiting for Sven to chase some deer down the hill, he decides it's time to take a crap...and since they got up early and have spent all day walking around, he's tired...and falls asleep, sitting on the log with his pants down to his ankles.

Sven chases several deer down the draw to Torsk...but doesn't hear any shots...

So, he makes his way down the hill and shoots a large buck.
"Now...vere is dat dumhead Torsk?", he wonders...so he starts looking around...and sure enough, there's Torsk...still sound asleep on the log with his pants down.

"Py yimminy," Sven thinks..."I'll fix him good." So, he goes back to the buck, guts it and takes the entrails over and puts them in a pile under Torsk...then he quarters the deer and packs it back to camp.

A couple of hours later, it's getting dark...and still no sign of Torsk...until finally, here he comes...looking pale and haggard.

"Torsk you idiot. Vere haff you bin?", says Sven.

"Oh yah," says Torsk, "vile I vas vaiting fer da deers, I haff to take a shit...and damn me...I fell asleep...and shit out all my guts."

"BUT, by da grace of God...and this long stick, I get dem back vere dey belong."

Hunters use many many techniques, and they vary greatly by geographical area and many times are dictated by terrain. For instance hunting in wooded or mountainous areas is a more "close quarters" affair with "stalking" and "tracking" as the primary techniques. However in wide open plains country like most hunting areas here in Texas those tactics are pretty much useless, you could spend days tracking and never get within a mile of deer. In these areas stand and feeder style hunting is about the only way and still requires stealth and skill because of the lack of cover and the preys keen sense of smell and ability to detect even slight movements at great distances. And because of the vast amounts of open land hunting well known traffic areas that have been baited for months is still no guarantee of success.

Calling and rattling really only works during the rut (mating season) and works best where there is cover, and driving also requires areas with cover.

Being an old guy I grew up with hunting more as a way of life than a sport, to my elders that taught me putting meat on the table was the ONLY criteria that mattered, not how it got there.

This.

I know a lot of deer hunters here in TX, and every one of them uses feeders and blinds. Even then, they don't always get a kill.

Whup dee doo big f'n deal. So he used some bait, does it really matter? Someone else would have shot the deer or it would have gotten run over by a car or something anyway. If hes going to eat, it doesnt make a difference.

haha, you so funny

actually, this product doesn't disgust me near as much as the guys who use actual DEER URINE on themselves and around themselves to attract bucks.

I wonder if that's illegal in some states...

I am sure its featured in a dirty German film

Just how old are you?

California Department of Fish and Game spokesman Patrick Foy says game wardens saw Nugent kill an immature buck on a February episode of his Outdoor Channel TV show "Spirit of the Wild."

So, no one noticed that they caught him by watching an episode of his TV show? He certainly knew it was wrong, so he's got to be pretty arrogant and/or stupid to have put it on the air.

Why is baiting illegal again? Is baiting fish illegal? Is baiting mice illegal? Why can we not kill the pesky deer and eat it for food?

this.

hunting should also be limited to big knives and bows and arrows...or at least arm the animals in some way.

would make things more interesting, imo.

You know something is wrong with common sense when evolution is labeled "unfair."

We evolved the ability to use advanced tools to hunt and that's why we're here today. Why the fuck should we handycap ourselves? Evolution handycapped us physically because we were able to use tools.

Baiting ain't hunting...it doesn't matter what the Native American Indians used to do...it doesn't matter what various animals do...it's illegal to bait game animals in most states.

wait...

so would you consider fishing, basically, hunting for fish? because that really is what it is.

and if so, you bait hooks to hunt fish...

If you want to sit on your ass, go Fishing. Hunting is all about hiking and tracking.

True, but baiting for game animals is more akin to chumming...and in many places, chumming for fish is also illegal.

Not quite an official senior citizen but close taught to hunt by my grandad who was born in 1893 and my dad that was born in 1925, both of whom experienced hunting out of necessity for food.
I myself have been fortunate enough to never be in that position and have not hunted hardly at all since my late 20's early 30's, I seem to have enough generous friends that hunt to satisfy my occasional desire for venison sausage

What's really funny is that Keith Olbermann has recently gone out and called Ted a racist because he sarcastically said how a town he was performing at was "a white town," when Nugent was in fact paying homage to the load of Black singers/performers from that town.

Even more comical, Olbermann berated Nugent for his "scheduled appearance" at a Glenn Beck rally, when in fact, Nugent is scheduled that same day/night to perform at the Boise Knitting Factory Concert House.

It's pretty obvious the Left isn't interested in being open minded, anyone who disagrees with them is definitely a racist, and that includes Ted Nugent.

Leftism is a mental disorder.
