At some point, you learn to mostly ignore everything he says.

You are not yet at that point.

If you are talking about Virtual Larry, I quite enjoy his posts actually. He may buy weird hardware, but he is also much less biased than a lot of posters in this and the VC and G forum.

I don't know about that. Maybe that's the case with multi-threaded Chrome, but with Firefox, I much prefer my two faster cores on my overclocked G4400, than my four cores on my Q9300 at stock.
FF feels slower than chrome to begin with, even on low core machines. In FF, when one tab freezes, all tabs freeze. Chrome doesn't behave like that. It is more fluid. With chrome, the more cores and ram, the faster it gets. FF seems rather outdated as it seems to run the same on faster hardware.

That's shocking, if true. I haven't used FF in ages, but I know that all modern browsers use individual processes/tabs which have their own CPU and RAM, which is why if one goes down it doesn't take the others down with it..

I use both Chrome and Edge, and they both use this compartmented method. I'm pretty sure FF does the same thing. You must be running an older version or something..

huh. Don't get me wrong. It's as stable as chrome. And it better stay stable, otherwise I'm screwed at work since some company demands using it for an esoteric app.
It's quite easy to test what I was saying. Just fire up some resource heavy webgl app, both in chrome an FF:
https://www.chromeexperiments.com/webgl
When dealing with(loading) heavy websites, FF "freezes" a little and then gets back on. This affects all of the tabs. You can asociate this annoying thing with the so called "lag" in games.

I use basically only chrome now. Firefox does seem slow, although my wife uses it and likes it. I refuse to use edge since it is part of the abomination known as Win 10.

That's a cool website. Tried it with Edge, and it was buttery smooth with no lag or hitching.

Windows 10 is fantastic. Edge is great too, just a little rough around the edges. Of all the browsers I've tried, Edge has by far the best hardware acceleration, which is an improved version of IE11's trident engine.

The rendering and scrolling speed (which are intertwined) are much better than even Chrome.. Chrome does have better functionality overall though, especially with it's integrated translator..

Thank you for the vote of confidence. I try to breathe some life into the forum, in my own way. Sorry if I rub some people the wrong way.

I have driver issues with Win 10 which I have spent endless hours of frustration trying to solve without success. I much prefer Win 7 and wish I had never switched. It ran flawlessly.

I think I remember you mentioning driver issues with Windows 10 before. Personally, the only driver issue I had was with the pre-release version of Windows 10, and that's understandable.

Anyway, Windows 7 was a great OS in it's day, but it's 10 years old at this point if you include development time. Compared to Windows 10, it has vastly less functionality, performance and security..

There's a reason why the Department of Defense is moving over to Windows 10.

But if you want to believe that Windows 7 still hacks it for security sneaky, be my guest

Yea, they are moving to Win 10 so they can more easily spy on their own employees!!! (Just kidding, sort of). Seriously though, I worked for the federal government for many years, and they would be the last organization I would cite as a showcase for cybersecurity.

Edit: perhaps I will start a thread about my driver issues at some point, but there is post after post on the internet already, and nobody seems to have figured out a way to solve the problem satisfactorily. I keep hoping every update crammed down my throat by MS will fix it, but so far, no luck.

The DOD is the last group to watch when it comes to security. They don't even meet PCI standards.

Lol "They don't meet PCI." Yeah, because they totally process credit cards. They're using NIST 800 53 (and all the other NIST publications), you know, the Federal standard. Written by the federal NIST agency. The one required by FISMA, you know, the Federal Information Security Management Act.

Security is only relevant on a system by system basis. Who cares if you're using Windows 7 or 10 when you've got open SQL injection attack vectors.

I was just pointing out a simple milestone they don't meet to show that they are something to be ashamed of.

Critical cyber assets under dod/doe aren't nearly as secure as many corporations' assets that I have seen. It is embarassing.

I agree with your last bit on perspective.
