omg stop your bickering.

1. this can be safe if done IN THE MIDDLE OF FRICKING NOWHERE as aswedc keeps claiming and at slow speeds. i personally think it's STUPID AS HELL and a great way to fall into a nice year long coma like my sister's friend.
2. the thrill is partially because there is no safety gear. there's no point in saying "if this was worn" etc.
3. if he was spooked because of the cop car, he should have just taken his ticket. no sense blaming the cop in sitting there. blame the kids for ALL being stupid (not just the driver, anyone else in the car for being dumb enough to go along with the idea.)
4. none of this "teens will be teens" crap. when i was a teenager i didn't do any of this stupid garbage because i figured in my head "oh my, i could FALL OFF AND DIE." maybe my parents would like having me around for another year or 50.

my cousin had two of her friends die this summer because they were speeding in a stolen car. they were 16 and 17. solution? don't speed on a friggin expressway (the limit is 45, they were going roughly 80) and don't steal cars. do people still do it? yes. why? because they have no concept of "OMG I CAN GET CAUGHT OR DIE. I AM INVINCIBLE"

Simple question:

Would you rather:

a) fall out of your chair
b) fall off of a 6' high roof?

When you are on a motorcycle, you are low to the ground, and in an emergency situation where you have to bail you will typically go down on your side without your head being the first thing to hit. Aside from major road rash or the potential collision with an object you are going to come out okay.

When you fall off of an elevated position (like a roof, or the top of a car), gravity is working against you. If he was truely surfing on it, simply rules of phyics state that the top part of his body (READ: HEAD) are going to be the first to hit.

You can't compare the risks of falling out of a chair to that of falling off a 5' or 6' roof.

My cousin died this way right after the scene from the movie.

My uncle tried suing the movie companies involved with the filming (paramount etc..), the judge threw out the case.

I agree with the judge, If your stupid enough to get on top of the car its your fault.

The only fudged up thing in his case was:

He had started seeing the drivers girlfriend and no one knew another reason why he turned the corner that caused my cousin to fall.

Man, this same thing just happened here. A kid was sitting on the trunk of a car, only going about 50 yards from a store to his house, never went on the road at all, hit a bump, fell off, hit his head and died 12 hours later.
