I'd be surprised if she hasn't hired a lawyer already, not that you're likely to get a lot from a tatoo parlor.

How about you actually read what it says...

the procedure likely did not cause the infection itself

She knew this and did it. It was her fault and her fault alone.

yes a 18 yr old girl loseing a boob is bad. but it is not devastating for her and the family. what would be devastating is for her to have died from this. loseing a boob is not as major when you look at what could have happened.

You don't think losing a boob is devastating for any woman, much less an 18 year old girl?

Tell me, would you be devastated if you lost your penis?

perhaps it would be devastating for the women. now for the family? hell no. considering that she nearly died. now that would have been devastating.

is it bad? yes. can she continue on with life? yes. many women have don eit.

now nowhere did i say it was not bad. but i do not beleive it is devasting for the family.

I don't know about you, but anytime one of my family is devastated, I am too. Especially if it's one of my kids.

This completely changes her life. She will forever be viewed as sexually mutilated by men.

sure it completely changes her life. but it does not stop it. My cousin had both taken about 10 (she was 26, family has a history of cancer, both overian and breast) years ago. she continued to get promotions at work and even got married in that time.

Life is what you make it. sure it is a setback but this is not a life ruining situation. As i said devestating would be if she had died from getting a niple ring at such a young age.

He can't know that for sure.

Lots of people get puncture wounds, including diabetics and immune/circulation impaired individuals and Clostridium perfringens infections (which is implied by gas gangrene, but not necessarily necrotizing fasciitis) are still very rare.

my father was infected by that flesh eating disease. He died 3 times over a 3 month period. He had 3 surgeries within a 24 hour period to stop the infection and a couple more when it attacked him later on. He has physical and emotional scares from the whole ordeal. He is very lucky to be alive now.

Soon, however, he will be going into a nursing home to get the proper care he needs. He will spend the rest of his life there. But its not a bad thing as he is looking forward to it. He will be catered to and be able to just relax and not worry about things as much.

I guess you don't see that there are varying levels of devastation. While not as devastating as death, knowing that my daughter's love life and self image was permanently crippled would be devastating to me.

But really which one would you pick...? You'd choose to lose the breast.

She'll learn and heal and probably be the better for it. It's nice to believe that atleast heh.

she can get a breast implant, there is no such thing as a penis implant (if there is I would like to sign up please )

Have you ever seen a mastectomy scar? Much less a massive tissue loss like this? She is massively scared for life in the one place where her sexuality shows most.

Her love life is screwed, forever. Few men will ever find her sexually appealing. Ask any breast cancer survivor.

You are totally ,100 % correct, if faced with having to lose a breast or die of cancer, thanks but I'd rather die.

Before passing away a few years ago my grandfather had a series of strokes and heart attacks that debilitated him enough that he and my grandmother moved into an assisted living building. After initially being bummed that they'd have to leave the house they'd lived in for decades they grew to love Park Place (the assisted living community). It's like a cross between a nice apartment building and a college dorm for old people. I think moving their definitely improved their quality of life because they didn't have to worry about the upkeep of a house and could just go down the hall and hang out w/their friends. Meals were provided in the cafeteria, they had a library, a game room, and a bunch of places for people just to sit down and talk.

It never ceases to amaze me, the enjoyment ATOT seems to get out of freakish stories of other people's suffering...and the armchair debates that ensue.

Contemplating other people's suffering better helps us understand our own and puts it all into perspective.

Aw, who am I bullsh!tting? We all slow down at car wrecks.

We live vicariously through other people.

Here's my 2 cents. Piercings in general are unattractive in my opinion, but this is her body and she's a legal adult. Now the article seems to make a big deal over how she is now 1 breasted and how her life and family are devastated because of it. Its just a breast, a body part unessential for her continued life. She can life with out it just fine. And since I see no reason why she could not have a child and breast feed from one breast, or bottle feed, her continued life will not suffer. The only negative effect seems to be mockery and teasing from her peers. But, she is 18, I would hope that her peers have more brains than that. Mocking people for physical flaws and deformities in something you did in grade school.

What?

So parents are ok thinking their one boobed daughter is just going to be 'Ariel' forever and loved?

Being a parent (her family) and having to tell docs to remove a breast is devastating.

Dying is actually pretty easy to deal with many times if you didn't have to make that choice yourself.

how is that well stated? it doesn't consider reality. Most men that would think about dating an 18 year old are not thinking about dating the one boobed girl. Your grade school analogy is probably the most idiotic I have heard.

That said, who says this 18 year old was looking to be a mother, to just nurse babies or be pro-creative.

I need to find some sharper instrument to stab myself with here.

Well stated my ass. It's so full of ignorance it's not even funny.

Go to ANY breast cancer survivor forum online to read about the rejection, heartbreak and isolation mastectomy victims live with.

This girl's love life is ruined. She will never have the choice in men she would have had before she was horribly mutilated in the ONE area her body outwardly expresses it's sexuality.

And I can guarantee neither of you would date a woman who's chest has been gouged out and left horribly scared.

Gee, how many porn stars are mastectomy victims?

Sh!t! I actually did a project on that disease. It can kill in hours when it starts from an extremity, let alone that close to her vital organs. Good thing they caught it fast.
