You invoked the word crime. Not me, chuckles.
I took "facecrime" as a reference to "thoughtcrime" where Sandmann's only crime was a facial expression rather than a thought.

In Orwell's "1984" people guilty of thoughtcrimes (AKA "wrongthink") weren't charged with crimes either, or at least there was no record of it in the end. They were "unpersoned" as any record of their existence was literally re-written to eliminate them... press and fiction too.

Or maybe his point was that Sandmann is guilty of facecrime in the eyes of some here and that we are now raging against him with prescribed hate just like the "Two Minute Hate" in the same book.

Either way, I don't think his point had anything to do with actual criminal charges against Sandmann.

Or maybe it was something else. Hopefully he will elaborate.

Whatever it is though, it was absurd and hyperbolic.

Dude be honest the kid has a punchable face. No getting around that.
Im on the fence, 24/7 news cycle jumped on this quick without doing much research which is pretty lazy. This guy went there looking for trouble or to “troll” just his plan backfired and he is whining about it.

I do, but socialism doesn’t necessarily have a negative connotation.

@Jhhnn’s facecrime concern is simply Orwellian.

I am also glad we’re now celebrating that a judge was willing to excuse the press for misrepresenting facts to advance a click driven narrative.

So, uhh, that wasn't a smirk? Of course it was. It says "Look at me, being a dick!" And, sure enough, people looked & didn't like what they saw. That's what wearing a MAGA hat is all about, isn't it? Being a dick. Methinks people who adopted "fuck your feelings!" as their motto don't have any room to complain when it comes back on them. But they have the chutzpah to sue for $250M when it does. I mean, such a tender & innocent young lad could be scarred for life!

So to recap: some people are claiming that a kid, who hasn't been charged with any crime, has been convicted of "facecrime," while that kid sues a newspaper in a court of law because he doesn't like what they said about him.

If the media misrepresented an escalating situation that you did not instigate, I expect you would have similar chutzpah. I am sure when you were a teenager, you handled every situation thrown at you maturely.

Just admit the facecrime triggered you.

Facecrime is a “newspeak” term from 1984. For people so concerned about fascism, some posters here certainly exhibit tendencies and behaviors that Orwell warned about. I thought that was evident. I forget who I am dealing with sometimes.

What misrepresentations did the WaPo make? Quotes & links are required. The court, in truth, determined that they did no such thing.

Why then did the WAPO release a lengthy editor’s note on a Friday at 5pm to “apologize” for their rush to judgment? WAPO prematurely released a salicious MAGA story based on incomplete information, and had to correct the narrative once more information came to light. WAPO also edited their original tweet. Drudge picked up on it, which is what started the counter narrative from the right.

The judge in this case gave broad benefit of the doubt to the press. I am sure you won’t complain at all when Fox News does the same.

wapo corrected themselves because they are a real news org who when making mistakes publish corrections. Find that in any right wing retard news? You wont, because they are grifters making money off the broken brains of boomers.

You just described Sandman's actions perfectly. Goebbels would be proud of the way you accused the other side of that which your side is guilty.

False equivalency, tu quoque, and Gowin's law all at the same time. Impressive!

No, I'm not clicking that vid.

Hear no evil, see no evil?

Viva Frei (the Youtube lawyer in question) is one of the most apolitical guys out there. Funnily enough, I remember a few people accusing him of a liberal bias when he explained the recent Quebec human rights tribunal decision where a comedian was sued for mean, offensive jokes.

But anyway, even if I had linked you to the federalist instead, which is obviously a politically motivated source, it's still a genetic fallacy to reject that information out of hand.

Once again, only one party in this conflict faces the possibility of any consequences of law. Let's try to dial down the hyperbolic stupid, eh? Public opinion cannot be a crime. That would be in fact Orwellian.

Has any 'conservative media' ever issued a correction for anything ever? Serious question.

The only hyperbolic stupidity I see is internet tough guys wanting to punch some teenager in the face because they’re triggered by a hat and a facial expression.

Another way of looking at it is that they rushed to judgment, which raises the question of why such a reputable news agency would dabble in tabloid reporting. The only reason they made the correction is that the social media tide turned against the narrative.

Right wing news sources are not reputable.

define patriot.

A patriot is someone that loves their country and takes constructive efforts to improve it. Not someone that burns a flag and kneels for the anthem, not people willing to erode our rights that they don't care for, not people that stop free speech, not people that demand society pay for their poor decisions, not people that actively try to cause net negative to society - things like blocking traffic, etc. etc.

Things like burning a flag and kneeling for the anthem are attempts at constructive efforts to improve our nation. The blocking traffic is them working at creating a net positive to our society by getting people to pay attention to it's ills. You are upset about a personal annoyance not a societal negative. It is protesting things they think are wrong with our nation, most often with an accompanying idea on how to fix them. You just disagree with their ideas so think they should be silenced. There is nothing less American than calling someone else unpatriotic for disagreeing with you. That is what free speech is actually about. Our country was founded on the idea that we need a large and varied public discourse for our government to work. You are the person trying to stop free speech.
