I take issue with the claim that Win95 was the first OS of it's type. Atari, Amiga, and Apple had similar OS's nearly 10 years earlier with similar capabilities. Other than that though, I found their reactions amusing.

Looking back, even though I lived through computing since the early 80's, my reaction to Win95 today would not be far from theirs. I'd know what needed to be done and things, but appalled anyone ever used it.
um, the Atari ST, Commodore Amiga 500 and Apple Macintosh were all the same computer.

more or less.

I went from a C128D to a Pentium PC running win 95. It had Win95 OSR2.5.

that was a big change for me.

They all used the same CPU but the rest of the hardware and the OSes where radically different from each other.

"The internet won't work because there's no Wifi on Windows 95." This video is stupid. Just like the Fine brothers with their googly eyed walnut creator. What the hell is wrong with that guy?

The funny thing is, not a lot has changed. It's just slower and a bit more crude. Try putting them in front of an IBM PC, handing them a DOS disc, and challenging them to get Hero's Quest up and running.

they are wrong about wifi not working also. you could get wifi, just not exactly fast.

Kid's ignorance is cute.

Reminds me when my HS math teacher told us they had to use slide rulers in grad school to do math.
Heh. I'm actually on the cusp of that myself - "scientific" calculators weren't yet "affordable" and very few kids even had ones with the basic trig functions (and in any event, they were forbidden during normal exams) when I was in HS...

Uh I started with just DOS and Windows 3.1 that was new stuff for me back then...
I remember when everyone who knew anything about what weren't quite yet being called "PCs" were simply mocking PC/MS-DOS as a pale and pathetic shadow of C/PM (which it was, indeed). (And while I did not have to trek barefoot 3 miles in the snow to school, I did have to ride the NYC subways during the late 70s-early 80s to get there. That never actually bothered me, but there are people in the world who would be willing to debate which is worse.)

Computers from that era I would have no clue. Most other things have not changed so drastically.

Please, things still haven't changed so drastically that they can't figure out a power button or Windows 95. Have you not seen some of the others? The kids are clearly over exaggerating their ignorance. It's mostly about making comments and ridiculing fashion, old shows..etc which you can do for any age group. It's all clearly staged. I've seen kids figure out old tech just fine. If my 5 year old granddaughter can figure out how to press the play button on my cassette deck out in the garage, then any of the most challenged teens could do that much...but not on that show.

Yeah, that aspect seemed really fake/staged. I mean seriously, come on now. People still have freaking computers. People that do anything more than basic use and/or play games need real computers. They have a separate power button. I still enjoyed the video though.

I remember seeing the difference between 60Hz and 85Hz. And my bewilderment that some people weren't bothered by/could not notice the flicker at 60Hz. Ahh the nostalgia. We are indeed spoiled today.

You will be surprised how many people doesn't know that the display itself is NOT the PC system unit and can't even troubleshoot something as simple as a disconnected power cord.

I would've been really jealous if the video got that many views (over 5 million) in one day instead of the three days it's been up.

Teens, teens who grew up on things being plugged in to run. We are not talking about Grandma here. Any kid who had a gaming system knew the difference between the huge freaking TV power and the xbox power, or the TiVo's, DVR, DVD, whatever's power. Staged, so obviously staged.
