I had to work again today....luckily, I was able to VPN in and complete my load balancing project.

My question to you all is, does your company pay for your internet? Mine doesn't :| I've been telling my boss that he needs to hook me up with this for quiet some time now. With all the hours I've spent working at home via VPN....the least the company can do to compensate my working on a weekend is to pay for my internet access.

I don't telecommute, but they give me $25 every month for "internet" connection. My DSL bill is about $34.99 or something. So it's not too bad.

Lucky me - My employer pays for my DSL every month, plus mileage (approx. 1100 miles per month), plus 6 hours drive time every week. I live 3 hours from their office, and I have to go there one day each week.

However, they don't pay for any of my computer/printer/scanner/phone equipment. That turns out to be a plus, because I have much better software than the crappy stuff they have on the office computers (I have/recommend Win2pdf, Paperport), even though I had to buy it myself. It is definitely worth it, though.

They even paid me my full salary when I had to spend a week on jury duty. How cool is that?

It's true...next time I complain about my job, smack me.

At the office, the building mgmt is chintzy with the heat/air, so the office is usually about 80 degrees, and they've sealed the windows. I get to set my own thermostat, plus I get a tax deduction for having an office in my house. 15% of mortgage payments, utilities, insurance.

I have an office all to myself, I can blast the radio if I want (until the phone rings), and no one to complain. I don't have to listen to the non-stop intercom, and I miss most of the office politicking.

They reimburse me for a second phone line. Since I live in a rural area, my local phone company is a cooperative. They keep a certain amount of capital on hand for upgrades and emergencies, but then refund unused profits to their members. I got a check from the phone company last year for $500. I love it when AT&T calls me and asks me to switch - they don't really know what to say when I ask them if they'll pay me to use their service.

On the other hand, I have to haul a lot of paper back and forth, by the box-load. Weather can play havoc with the drive, I totalled my Explorer two years ago on black ice, and last week I had to sit in my car for half an hour and wait for t-storms to go thru. I got a parking ticket two weeks ago in a two-hour parking zone, cost me $10. I know, what you're thinking: waaaaahhhhhhh.

God knows I don't deserve it, but I love it!!
