Personally, I think light pollution is the bigger problem at the moment. So many urbanites haven't even seen the skies, don't even know what the Milky Way looks like, can't tell a planet from a star, etc.
I agree... When we go up north (MI's UP) on vacation it's hard to believe I'm looking at the same sky.

Katrina on it's own is an anomoly, but the effect being alluded to pretty much defies being a statistical accident.
