Downtown Detroit is AWESOME! I LOVE Greektown....I love the food and the different places you can go to. There are some really good food spots in downtown Detroit. I also love being able to walk around and hear people playing jazz in the streets. The atmosphere is wonderful. You don't have to worry about crime really. All that stuff happens a little farther out.

I have a friend that Interned at Quicken 2 summers ago and now has a full-time job there. It seems like it would be fun, although I've never interned there myself.

Guess I'm the young one here, since I've never even heard of it. The rest of what he said all still applies though! Might want to go a town or two further than Farmington for the really nice parts of town these days.

Pretty sure you're older than me (or near the same age, I'm 28) and I've been there when it was open. Closed in 93... used to be a big deal!

You want to know what Detroit is like. Watch this youtube video. The city looks like something out of a scifi move, a post apocalyptic WWIII America.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6WKMNmFsxM

So you've never been there? Got it.

The OP specifically asked about the Downtown area. There areas in those videos are nowhere near Downtown. Detroit is a large city, if you are working Downtown you will not see areas like that.

like 4 blocks, and at night around midnight or 1 am you have to shut your self in your apartment when the tweakers start coming out of the sewer systems looking for people to rob and beat down for meth money.

Detroit is dying, and the best thing to do is avoid it altogether. Life is too short.

It's cool to talk shit about Detroit because you read about it on the Internet. Its so funny when those people turn out to not have a single clue about what they're talking about.

The Downtown area is lovely. Eastern Market is one of my favorite stops. I still remember being a kid and seeing a cow running through the streets of Detroit because he escaped from the slaughterhouse lol

That is not true. My Grandmother basically lives Downtown, there has never been an incidents of Hobos beating people for crack money. The cops are VERY prominent downtown and people are always around. You don't have to lock yourself in anywhere....and at 1am the city is still going.

I have no idea where you are pulling this info from. Most spots in Detroit don't even close until around 4am. People are still out and about.

Downtown is literally the safest area of Detroit.

I'm 25.

Lived on the west side of the state until '97 (except for a short stint in Farmington when I was born)...guess that explains it.

Yeah, whatever, ignore it. That clown has some personal issue that he's been spouting off about for years.

And if you bothered to read the article, you would see that she does not live Downtown.

The assholes are out in full force in this thread, I guess.

Lol (not laughing at the gma being shot, just the irony of statements - let that be clear)!

Great Aunt != Grandma

Neither of you can read, I guess.

My Grandmother basically lives Downtown

Someone shot my Great Aunt

I thought i heard they devolped it with condo's or something on it awhile back?

Yeah there are houses on there now.. my whole family lives there. You can still walk through the amusement park area but all of the buildings are boarded up. My brother is determined to rehab the mini golf course.

My office is downtown near the rencen, I'm not sure how far away that is from where you are looking but I don't feel like I'm going to get murdered or anything in that area.

Oh dang, you right. I just took KT's post for granted since he quoted you and I didn't read who the victim was. One point for SheHateMe. Still funny though (the irony!) because doesn't she live in Detroit as well?

I know nothing of Detroit except for the Red Wings; just could not help but think of that thread when I saw a certain someone talking about Detroit and safety. /shrug

This discussion is about downtown.

My Grandmother lives in Corktown.

My Great Aunt does not leave anywhere near Downtown.

Instead of being a jerk, you could have quickly done some research, her neighborhood was listed in the article. Its so easy to just look up a damn address.

Avoiding the question, that's cool.

I answered your question. Its very obvious that you don't understand what is being asked in the OP.

He asked about the Downtown area, that is what we are talking about.
