Tell me something, why are semi-automatic weapons "evil"?

Cept for the MG42 and MG34 which are two of my fav machine guns of all time. Those were both Open bolt systems, the famed PPSH and MP40 were as well.

Woops - I just realized I mistakenly wrote closed bolt instead of open bolt as being better for mgs.

It's also not an automatic weapon.

I can fire the 26 rounds very fast if I choose to...

The reloads are a bit slow, though.

But if I get to the point of reloading, presumably I've already shot 26 children...

Kind of whenever the media mentions semi-automatic weapons, there is a frenzy of "eek!! those evil weapons, ban them!!"

Don't people realise that semi-automatic simply means that bullets are loaded automatically into the barrel prior to firing? How is that "evil" lol? So it's different to an 18th/19th century musket in which the shot/ball had to be manually loaded on every shot.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think people beyond the armed forces or police need guns in modern society, but it doesn't make sense to label semi-automatic weapons as "bad" compared to other firearms.
I wasn't aware inanimate objects without any sort of mind can be evil. :hmm:

Semi-auto type firearms existed back in the 18th century. They may not have been as good as what came later, but the concepts existed in real form. The Girandoni Air Rifle, for instance. Could shoot 22 shots before reloading.

The Ferguson Rifle was used by the British in the American Revolutionary War. It could shoot between 6 and 10 rounds a minute.

There's at least one or two more I'm forgetting.

Anyone who says The Second Amendment only intended citizens to have 1-round-per-minute muskets because "semi-auto" types of weapons didn't exist at the time and couldn't possibly be envisioned is hard to take seriously, because such firearms already existed.

Yea, there doesn't need to be any more additional gun control. I disagree on cops and military being the only people allowed to own firearms in modern society. For one, not all of modern society takes place in a city like the OP is imagining.

That assault musket is considerably more deadly, thanks to the bayonet. Shoot, stab, stab, stab!
That's true. A musket would be considered an "assault weapon" in many states today because those states don't allow bayonet lugs.

Look at that... today's gun banners would even ban "assault muskets." Just goes to show how nutty gun banners are.

Guess we can't blame them though, what with all the mass bayonet killings that would go on if bayonet lugs weren't banned.

Statistics can be used any way you want. By your graphic, we should ban handguns, and even I'm not for that.
Neither does Obama. But Obama does want to ban AR-15s, even though the chance of getting killed by one is worse than getting hit by lightning.

My biggest problem is we're at the point right now where other countries are recommending their citizens do not go to the US because you could be murdered. That's something they say about Somalia, not the United States. It's embarrassing and destructive. The gun/violence culture in this country is out of control, but everyone is too afraid to try anything because of fear mongering from both sides of the aisle.
Doesn't seem to stop the illegal aliens. Maybe putting up "stay away or you might get shot" signs on the U.S. borders would help.

Remember, Americans shouldn't go to Britain because of the much higher chance of being the victim of a violent crime. Maybe if Britain had more guns violent crime wouldn't be such a problem there. Same goes for Russia and other places, of course.

In all fairness, there is a big difference between a MAK-90 and a Colt .45 Government Model. A MAK-90 can accept a 30 round clip (yeah, I said clip) but the Colt only holds 7 or 8 rounds depending on the magazine... er I mean clip. Both are semi-auto only (meaning you pull the trigger once and it fires one bullet). I can empty a 30 round clip in a matter of seconds even though it isn't full auto.

You can put big mags into 1911s too. There have been 30-rounders made. I think the U.S. government even made one way back in the day. Might even have been a 50-rounder.

Because people are too stupid to research anything for themselves and therefore accept the shit that the main stream media spoon feeds them.
They don't care. A lot of gun banners know they are wrong. They know they twist facts or outright lie to make their case. They know they are wrong, and they don't care.

And they will not stop until they've taken all of your guns.

Late chiming in here, but for the OP- haven't your heard? ALL guns are evil. The people using them, however, are just misunderstood, misguided, confused, etc. If we could just get rid of all the guns, people would stop murdering each other in a jiffy. As for semi-autos, the idea that you have to actually pull the trigger every time you want to fire the weapon just scares the daylights out of the ignorant and easily frightened.

50 round single stack? That sucker must be 3' long!

Anyway, I bet they aren't that reliable nor are they practical. I own a few semi-auto handguns and quite a few magazines for them but none of them stick out below the grip of the gun. I just never saw the point.

The thing with those that want to ban certain guns, usually AR-15's etc, is that in truth they really want to ban all guns. If you asked Piers Morgan if he wanted to ban all guns he says no, only the assault weapons, but if you then ask him if we'd be better off if all guns were banned what do you think he'd say if he answered honestly?
