I just wanted to know what Card you started on (no doubt a Voodoo or RIVA) plus what was the processor at time.......

1994) I started off with a Monster3D card in a P66 ran screamer rally like a dream...
1996) Then got a 233K6 with a pathetic S3 Virge/Trio hybrid with 2Mb of Mem, God i was stupid to Buy Unreal then... but software mode was good at 25fps...
mid 1997) went to a trade fair Bowlers, in Manchester's Trafford Park, UK, got a 8Mb 3Dfx Voodoo2 for just £50 saw a V3 3000 Going for £200... but it was a con, took the V2 home and banged it straight in... loaded Unreal up, nearly fell off the chair, picking my jaw up at every frame at 800x600 was something i'll never forget...
1998) got a AMD K6-3 450 with built in SIS video, benched it on Final Reality (if you could remember this DX6 benchmark - you're a veteren) instantly slammed the Voodoo2 in and installed Unreal - WOW! At the end of that year, Unreal Tourney Demo was released, Glide only.. took pride in showing off to all my console friends who spent 179 on a PSone.... mwhahaa!
1999) bought a Voodoo3 2000 PCI for 75 using a voucher at PC World, Voodoo2 went back into 233 and that SIS onboard chip never saw use again... even to this day... never forget giving Tourney a go at 1280x1024 whew!
2000) new PC, this time a Duron 700 the one i'm typing on now, it cam with a TNT2 and Quake3 didn't half run fast and look gorgeous in 32bit... soon found some cash for a Geforce256 - wow! couldn't forget the look on my friend faces when they saw this one in action!
2001) bought a Geforce2MX for just 60 quid, also got hold of 3DMARK2001, which i ran ASAP (of course!) but despaired at having to put res. down to 640 so the trees scene was smooth in the demo...
2002) purchased something in Feb, just as specs on NV25 flooded the net... yep a GF3 Ti200 - finally something to run Comanche4 on and see THAT water in 3DMARK2001 - AWESOME! My mates who a PS2 didn't say a thing when i said a GF3 had been around for 1.1 years... (snigger-not to mention GF2 and One looked better than PS2!) I still have that 700 Duron and GF3 and will only upgrade my processor in the next 12 mnths - Graphics staying as it is until Doom3 - and THATS FINAL!

Voodoo 2 on the same PII @ 400 Got it so I could play Unreal (not UT) in Glide. Yow! Now we are fast!

Voodoo 2 SLI on the same PII 400 Now I have 3 slots used in my PC for video!

Hey! Can have more speed with just 1 video card! Voodoo3 3000 in the PII 400.

Voodoo 3 3000 went into the new PIII 550 @ 733

Radeon 64 DDR in PIII 700 # 933

Radeon 64 DDR in PIII 1000 @ 1125

VisionTek GF3 in PIII 1000 @ 1125

VisionTek GF3 in PIII-S 1.26 @ 1.5 GHz

The competition for the Rendition 2x00 at that time was the nV Riva 128, Intel i740, 3DFX Voodoo (1). The Rendition had the best image quality of the bunch.

Ok, here goes ( I hope this doesn't give away my age too much )

1985/86: good ol' Commodore 64
~91: 286, 1mb ram, 40mb hdd, generic 256k vga
I've seen/used the "accelerated ISA cards", EISA vga, mono, cga/ega, of course the extremely fast VLB (S3, etc)
Then started getting real high tech with S3 PCI cards, even had/have a few that are "3D accelerated S3 PCI"...hheheh
Made my first real advance into a S3 Stealth 3D AGP!!!! wow!
Then finally made it to nVidia with a TNT2m64 AGP
Got ahold of my "new" nVidia GeForce2 mx 400

I'm not even going to try to put dates to all of this. Or even go into all the different computer setups I've had, except to say almost everything between XT and P2 to Duron.

Enjoy!

First PC was a 150mhz Cyrix PR200+ w/ S3 Trio 64v+ Video

Next came the K6-2 400mhz, which went thru the same S3 card, then a STB Velocity 4400 (Playing Quake 2 using OpenGL was SO SWEET!!), then a Voodoo 3 3000.

After that came a big jump, and I got myself a 1ghz Athlon and used the same Voodoo 3 until I decided to pick up a GeForce 2 MX 400.

Soon after, I popped in a 1.4ghz Athlon and upgraded to a GeForce 2 Pro.. and that's where I am now.

Mine is kinda short -

First comp was 486DX 33mhz - Pretty much the only game I played on this computer was SimCity 2000 and WarCraft.

Second comp was a P2 233Mhz 32 ram Riva 128 4meg. I played mostly WarCraft2, Starcraft, and Half Life on this computer. I lated added a Voodoo3 2000 AGP and 128 megs of ram. I had this computer for a real long time, I manged to play many games on this computer including, UT, Q3, Kingpin, Soldier of Fortune, The Sims, and a few others.

The computer I'm on now - AMD T-Bird 1.1GHz @ 1.25ghz, 384 PC133, and a Voodoo5 64meg. Still workin pretty well... I'll probably upgrade it this summer.

(1st comp about 1995ish) laptop, 386 @ 25Mhz, 8MB RAM, 128MB hard drive, ran Might and magic 3 and Doom in a very very tiny monochromed window.

(2nd comp, 1997)AMD k6-166 desktop with 32MB RAM, POS mobo and 1.2 GB Hard drive, S3 Virge DX(the "Un"3d card)

(1998) upgraded system with a new (crappy)mobo and k6-2 350Mhz, ran that sucker at 380Mhz, video to permidia 2 card(opposite of a Virge, supports EVERY API, just can't get the damn games to run with them)

(2000) Overclocked CPU flash fries itself into oblivion, and I build a new system. 700Mhz K7 Athlon Slot A with once again, a POS Procomp mobo. TNT2 video card

(2001) I become less stupid and buy a real mobo, an Asus A7V and a T-Bird 950. Upgrade to geforce2 MX at the same time. Let the frag fest begin.

(late 2001, notice how my upgrades keep getting closer together?) Build a new system for "school". Dual 40GB IBM 60GXPs in RAID 0, Soyo Dragon mobo, T-bird 1.33Ghz, Inwin Full tower. 6 weeks later I win the Athlon XP giveaway and get an XP 1800+ and a new mobo, which I then use to build a second box, giving my A7V to my bro to replace that Procomp POS I'd foisted off on him b4.

1998 - IBM k6@166MHz & 4mb ATI onboard Rage II+
1999 - IBM k6@166MHz & 8mb ATI Xpert 98 (what a difference!)
1999 - k6-3@400MHz & 8mb ATI Xpert 98 (FIFA 99 never looked so good )
2000 - k6-3@400MHz & 32mb TNT2 M64
2001 - Athlon XP 1600+ & Visiontek 64mb Ti200 (current system)

Thanks for this thread. Brings back a lot of memories. Can't wait to see what the future brings!

I also remember to "old" days of LAN parties.

At my house I had 3 network segments (10Base2) connected to a Netware 3.12 network. (for a BBS).

I'd bring down the BBS and people would use the nodes (486sx25/33 oc'd to 50 with 8mb ram) to play Wolfenstein!!!

Of course I had a DX2/66 oc'd to DX2/80 with 32mb ram...

That used to be so kick ass.. Only place in the county you could go for decent LAN parties was my house.. this was back in (i think) 92/93 erra...

Figured since we were thinking back to the good ol' days

I don't have much of a list.

97? - First computer I ever bought was a Amd K6-200 and it had 1 meg onboard graphics.
upgraded to a 16 meg Blaster Banshee shortly thereafter, made it reasonably decent. My mom still uses that pile.
98 - K62-400 and a Voodo3-2000
01 - Duron 750@933 with a 32mb Leadtek - still using it and probably will for a while yet.

Hercules monochrome adapter on a Samsung PC/XT running at 4.77mHz (8.33mHz with turbo on, a beautiful steel toggle switch on the back of the computer nestled between the parallel and serial ports), 640kb, dual 5 1/4 floppies, no hard drive (hard drive, we don't need no stinking hard drive ) way back in the early eighties.

P 233 mmx had a Trident vid card, 1 meg of ram. (That was "1" meg of ram...lol.)

K6 500 with Voodoo 2000....still like that card.

PIII700@933 with Diamond TNT ultra 32 megs.....still like that card.

The 700e with Radeon LE 32megs DDR...do not like that card

ATI Rage PCI 16 megs...for "emergencies" only

PIII 750 CCO stepping @1015mhz with the TNT ultra, then the Radeaon LE....then Visiontek TI-200

Presently, P4 1.6a @2.4 with the TI-200.
