Temp Reporting Problem?: P4B266-C

I set up my first system this weekend.

Here's the basic breakdown of what I'm running:

P4 1.6a@2.1
ASUS P4B266-C
Evercase 4252
Enhance 300W PS
3 Fans
Lite-On 16X DVD
ATI AIW Radeon 7500
19" Gateway Monitor
Soundblaster Audigy Platinum
100 GB WD ATA100 7200 RPM Hard Drive
Sony Floppy
3Com Nic
Logitech Z560 Speakers
Windows XP

Everything is running very smoothly at 133 FSB (haven't pushed it past that). My problem is with the ASUS Probe Utility. It is reporting my CPU temperature at 40C. This has not changed since I first turned it on. It seems like I heard that there was a problem with the temperature reporting but a search turned up nothing on Anandtech.

I know the CPU temp has to be changing. I ran Sandra and 3DMark last night. No change at all. I'm considering pushing this further but I'd like to know that my CPU temperature is correct. One last thing...I'm running this with the covers on the case in my unfinished basement office (around 68F).

Yes, there is a temperature reading issue with the P4B266-C. Hopefully it should be fixed with a BIOS update. Apparently the reading will only change if your temperature is actually over 40C (or at least that's what I have heard). I haven't had a chance to test it yet.

Same problem with the P4S333. No fix that I am aware of.

AndyHui - So...I shouldn't be too worried then. I'm running my P4 1.6a at 2.1 and the temp isn't over 40C. I think that's pretty good.

I have the same problem with my P4B266-C.

I use Motherboard Monitor 5 and get 52C under load (Asus 2 CUSL2 sensor). I use Asus 2 sensor and it's 38C under load. I'm still not really sure which one to use.

It's the 38C one.

I stated this in another thread, but I'll say it again anyhow

The Sensor2 CUSL2 adds compensation to the read readings from the sensor chip on the mobo.
The Sensor2 setting reports the actuall temp reading from the sensor chip on the mobo.

Considering that the P4 has the sensor on-die, I see no reason why you'd need any compensation. The sensor2 setting is what I go by on my P4B266(regular p4b266) as my bios and pc probe readings are also stuck at 40C. 38C load is much more accurate in my mind than 52C.
