Temperature Question for P3 650@949

I have a GREAT o/c'er that is a perfectly stable P3 650 running @ 949 with just an oversized HSF. The strange thing to me is that if I check my cpu temp with AsusProbe, after any amount of gaming in any game, I get a temp of roughly 27-33C. I hadn't ever run a program and simultaniously run the probe to see the temp. To my surprise the temp on the cpu shows a jump from 27 to @65C running SETI. The temp rises in about 5secs. but also comes back to @27 in the same time after I stop SETI.

Is this OK?

Update: I read another post that suggested redoing the thermal paste and HS attachment. I did this and now my temps stay below 50C. @45-48 under full SETI load. I think I can do better though. Any ideas on how?

What HS/fan are you using and what thermal paste...?

And as Mikewarrior would ask - what's your case temp and ambient room temp?

That does not sound that bad at all. You should try an alpha pep66, or another type of copper inlay HSF that should help you out a bit more. But it looks to me like you are disapating the heat very well. what do you have for case cooling? (inlet and outlet fans)?

My room temp and case temp are around 23C and 27C respectively. I'm using an Asus CUV4X Motherboard and I have two small inlet fans (not sure the cfm) on the front and a large (also not sure cfm) outlet on the back. I am running a tiny fan under my HD as well. My HSF is called an ACC-5050 and I'm using the paste I got with it.(AK100 by Plowstar Co. is what the package says) The HSF was a freebie with my CPU cuz the guy at the shop likes me. He assured me it would work as well as a golden/silver orb. I haven't ever heard of the company though. I found their website but the HS wasn't listed in their product list, although very many similar ones were. Thanks for the interest guys...
