hot? sure. insanely? nah... max spec is 90C on these, and the Asus boards give higher readings than others. now I definitely wouldn't LIKE to have temps that high... mine are @60C max @ full load (dnetd, any intense gaming or benchmark) with stock cooling and it never jumps up. The answer to something like this might be as simple as a better thermal grease, a case fan or two, or just cooler ambient room temp. If someone isn't running in an AC-regulated ~70F room during the summer that makes a huge diff IMO. but if it's stable, why worry if you're not overclocking? All of those factors should be considered. Socket thermisters aren't very accurate...but the Asus boards have C.O.P via the on-die temp sensor anyway so heat shouldn't ever really be a danger.
I'm curious what cooling setup and boards you're running for those temps in windows I do plan on tweaking my setup a bit in a few weeks, but I'm content as-is. I can't justify the extra $50-100 for a drop of 5-10C...that saved money could go towards an iPod or better monitor. Weird how my ol' PIII 1GHz w/ Alpha heatsink ran about as hot as this, hotter w/ the gaming temp spikes. (in the same case, plenty of circulation here)
As for dmw16 you have nothing to worry about honestly it was probably GTA3's fault, I've heard it has some real nasty issues so I wouldn't be surprised.
