Temperatures on gigabyte motherboards

My system is based on the Gigabyte P4 Titian GA-8IGX and in the PC health of the bios it says I have a idle temperature of 47 degrees on my 2.4ghzB Pentium 4. I know this is not right because the new pentium 4s, ie, ones with a 533mhz fsb, have a diode which detects temps. So when the cpu hits 60 degrees they shut down, and i had an alarm set in the bios for when the cpu would hit sixty degrees the internal speaker would beep. It has beeped a few times, and the cpu kept on going, so the temperature reading it is giving me in the bios must be incorrect. So does anyone know how to find my real cpu temp??

And while we are on the subjuect of temperature, even though this is a bit OT, how do find the temp of my video card. It's a built by ATi Radeon 9700pro.

I thought if intel cpus got too hot..they don't shutdown but instead operate at half speed. Unless you were talking about the mobo cpu warning temp shutdown feature thing. Just be glad you have some temp reading the new gigabyte sis648 rev 1. mobo has none whatsoever.

Hello Looney,
I have the same exact CPU.
Although idle temp is not quite that high, It runs at about 41/42 sometimes.

I also know this can't be right because I got an alpha sink on it and the heatsink is COLD to the touch.
It's not even warm.

I don't know...but I don't trust these temperature readings either.

I have read of these northwood CPU's running in the 30's at idle. hmm?
