They sound just about right... maybe even a little on the cool side. Nothing to worry about.

Did you change the fan speed? The default is like 5% or something.

Edit: Well it is with the 1900 cards, not sure on the x1950s

Yeah, you can use something like ATITool to bump the fan speed up to 50%. It sounds a little high for a 2-slot card. If it is a single slot card then it makes sense.

ATI tool lets you do that AFAIK. It can get loud tho.

You shouldn't be having heat problems! Just leave the card at its default settings. If you have it overclocked, undo it.

Your case may have terrible airflow. Perhaps your CPU is pumping tons of heat into your case. If you have a cheap PSU, it can cause heat issues.

Tell us your ambient case temps. They sound like the root of the problem.

everything is stock speeds in my case. i have a zalman 9500 on my proc 2 120mm fans (1 front 1 back) and i have a small fan mounted on my nb chipset to keep that cool. and i run with my sidecase open just bcuz all my computers do

EDIT: i found out how to bump the speed up

EDIT2:whenever i open atitool or minimize a game my screen has like a green flash apear on it

What are your case temps?

I wouldn't reccomend messing with the fan speeds, and I don't really like ATI tool (I almost regret mentioning it).

Your BIOS should tell you.

Depending on your board, you can get Motherboard Monitor 5 (AKA MBM5).

There may be other freeware utilities out there, but I'm not aware of them.

Often, the manufacturer will have software available to monitor your temps.

My case is 31C.

Yours sounds hot.

I don't even have any case fans running!

You need to *ventilate*.

Sounds right. It's too cool a temp to be a CPU or anything.

You need case fans to ventilate, but really it sounds like there is a fundamental underlying 'cause' to your heat problems, whether it be a CPU that runs too hot or a graphics card that you have overclocked.

What brand is your PSU?

Ventilation requires case fans. You want at least one intake fan at the front/bottom of your case, and at least one exhaust fan at the back/top of your case.

I highly suggest finding the source of the heat and dealing with it. I don't like the noise generated by a bunch of case fans.

Just as a reference, my temps:

CPU Diode: 51C
CPU Socket: 44C
Case: 31C

That's with an undervolted and overclocked AXP at 2200mhz (yes, that's right, I undervolted and overclocked, it's an uber-chip).

according to my gigabyte utility that came with my mobo my cpu is idling around 32c. i just watched parts of a movie on my pc and now my gpu is up to 70c

about ventilation i do have 1 intake at the bottom and 1 exhaust at the top. also i was wondering if maybe the fan grill on the back could be restricting airflow. its just the stock grill that came with the pc so its kinda like a honeycomb..how could i cut that off? would adding a side 80mm fan be good?

Don't cut the grills. You'll get all kinds of dust in your case and probably cut yourself in the process (I've done it before - if you use a dremel it's a minor PITA).

I'm thinking you have a cheap PSU or else the 1950 is just pouring massive heat into your case that is not being exhausted properly. That or else your CPU is somehow pumping out too much heat, but really the most likely suspect is the GPU.

I would underclock the GPU and undervolt the CPU if possible. Your temps will probably drop at least 10C if you do it properly, and you'll lose very little performance. I like cool and quiet rigs tho.

i have a corsair hx620w which was recommended to me by the forums. it actually helped a little bit, also when i installed my 9500 i wasnt sure if i put it in right and it has been reinstalled 3 times with the same temps so i figured it was put in right.. would taking out the extra slot covers help as well?

No no no!

Those keep dust out of your system! Dust can mean instant death to stuff! And it can clog up your heatsinks and make your system overheat!

Dust = mortal enemy #1 when it comes to 'preventable physical illnesses' for your computer.

You need to tone down your rig. If you refuse to do that, then be prepared to live with a bunch of high-speed fans running to try to keep your case cooler.

Does your 1950 exhaust its heat outside of your case, or does it just spew it upwards toward your CPU? If it's the latter, that could be your problem Aftermarket cooling might be an idea.

I hope your PSU has a fan that sucks air up and then out the back of your case.
