We have had an annual Folding@Home Holiday Season Race for 10 whole years. here are som stats for that whole period.

With these stats I would like to thank and honor all those
  • who have raced in these races, no matter if one or ten times,
  • who have contributed to science (many of these projects have resulted in hard data and have advanced knowledge)
  • who have sacrificed their resources for a good cause
  • who have advanced the TeAms numbers and stats.
I very much hope that most - if not all - have had some fun, some sense of accomplishment and sense of communality ... and that most had a feeling of being a part of some bigger good.

I am very happy of having some of you as internet friends with common interest and common fun.

So long, and thanks for all the fish ... I mean all the fun ...

Some overview stats:

Ninetyeight (98) folders have contributed during those 10 years.
Here they are ordered according to the number of races they have contributed to:

Here they are ordered according to the number of points they have contributed:

More stats in the posts below ...

(No, I am not leaving the planet ... but I like the quote)

Lot's of work, friend. Much appreciated!

It's very interesting to watch the annual totals go up and up, especially once the GPU's came into play, then got more and more powerful. According to a quick, unreliable, mental calculation by your's truly: This year we produced about 33M more than the first 8 years combined!

Let's hope Nvidia's next gen cards (due by summer) push down the prices of new/used GTX 980-class cards, so next year more racers can have even more fun!

Thanks Tony!
I would not do this if I did not have a lot of fun doing this.
I have been Seti@Home-ing, BOINC-ing, Folding, Prime-ing, etc. for almost 15 years and still have a lot of fun ... and doing the stats is one way of keeping track of all the effort!

I've seen that quite a few of the folders came into folding because of the race. Here is a table of the folders, their production during the race, the total production and the proportion of the racing-production (in relation to total production. One goal of the race was to attract new folders to the TeAm and I guess, that that goal was reached ...

Not all 98 racers are in this table. I've limited myself to those who have been in the race several times, and/or in the past two-three races, and/or have produced more than 1M points during the races and/or how easy it was to find the data (i.e. a somewhat, but not totally arbitrary selection).

Great stuff Peter!

I think in the first race I participated, I built 3 Q6600 rigs.

We were excited to get 3-4000 ppd on a Q6600 back then!

Good to read the trash talk between MadMurph and MarkFW again!

I remember racing one year with a Q6600 @3.6Ghz on a Tuniq 120, with two GTX460 1GB cards cranking away, all on one Antec EarthWatts 650W PSU (Delta OEM).

I wonder what I was doing in 2012, don't even recall seeing those teams. Guess I must have lost interest around then, or something.

I wasn't able to go completely all-in this year, because the weather was so warm, and I didn't want to run the A/C in Dec. (60F out!)

I agree - these old threads are a pleasure to read ... e.g. Sid ... I hope he is well.

Thanks for the stats petrusbroder. It's nice seeing all of the stats in one place. For some reason I'm not showing up as crunching in 2007. I checked the final stats for that race and I'm missing from the total stats but show up in the weekly production.

Wow Peter, These aren't just stats but memories.
Yeah, I can track my history of computer upgrades from here!

2006-2008: I considered my Athlon XP too slow for this race.
2009: Got my current Q9400.
2010: Got my first GPU, a GTX 460.
2014: Upgraded to a GTX 750 Ti.

Thanks for your work and time you put into this. We really appreciate it!

Its funny going back and reading some of those past threads. How ( reading from the third race) the points that were produced in one day by both teams ( 448k+ ). Now we can smoke those numbers a day with one PC and a two vid card setup ( 1 possibly using a 980ti ). No wonder this time of year I go broke!

Every year this gets me. This year I said "I am retiring, I can't afford it". But I end up with an extra 980, a 980ti, a 4790k system, and a motherboard/memory/cooler for my Xeon 5670. $2k-$3k every year !! I can't say no. It will be the death of me.

This is the first year I didn't spend a dime.

My extra money and time go into this:

Sadly I just put her up for the winter last week.

Somewhat on topic:

I emailed Vijay Pande recently and actually received a reply just now! I figure that's one busy man, so that was cool (to me).

It was in regards to getting an app for the 30M PS4's and 15.5M Xbox-One's out there. They're working on it, but not getting much cooperation from Sony or Microsoft.

Agreed. This has very much been on our minds. The tricky part here has been getting the partners to complete their end of it.

Thanks,
Vijay

Alright boys, time to send some emails to Sony and Microsoft, if you're into harassing CEO's of the biggest companies in the world.

Sony

Microsoft

Come on over and ride the Dragon at Deal's Gap. You only put your bike up for a few days/weeks at a time here.

I've heard about the tail of the dragon from some of my motorcycle buddies online. It would be a great place to ride sometime. There are a bunch of mountain rides in NH that are on my bucket list and are only day trips for me.

Wow Petrus you really outdid yourself on the stats today!

I had been crunching with a Core 2 quad in all the races except this one!
Actually, it did a couple of thousand points in this 1 too . Q6600 @3-3.35 GHz 2007-2013 (I think), 2013-2015 Q9550 @3.6 GHz.
Main CPU this yr was my i7 @3.9 GHz of course, but most of my output this race was by my HD 7950!

Interesting to see the jump in output through the years!
A little of my own stats......

2007 race, 5.73x previous race output
2008, 2.6x (2 fewer folders)
2009, 1.25x (5 fewer folders)
2010, 2.72x (4 more folders)
2011, 1.26x (2 fewer folders)
2012, 1.07x (3 fewer folders)
2013, 2.25x (1 more folder)
2014, 1.39x (6 fewer folders)
2015, 1.98x (1 more folder)

(my numbers for 2013 on are a little more approximate as my old calculator can't handle the big numbers, so I just lopped off the lower 3 numbers ....... somewhere I have a scientific calculator which could handle the numbers, but near enough is good enough ).

So do you guys reckon we can do nearly 600 million in the next race?

Has Vijay published any results lately?

Very nice guy, btw. I've met him. Interesting that someone with a PhD in physics is teaching biochemistry but the man is brilliant.
