Like I said earlier, tequila and grapefruit soda (Squirt) is an extremely popular drink in Mexico called a paloma; they're very refreshing. Beyond that, you might try tequila with a citrus soda like Sprite or 7-Up, sort of a hobo margarita. Apparently mixing tequila with Coke is called a "Charro Negro," but I had the misfortune of trying one of these my buddy had made and it's like drinking a big glass of vomit. Regardless of what soda you mix with, you should add a squeeze of fresh lime juice, as tequila pairs perfectly with lime.

Usually, I do the Mountain Dew option. I can't stand MD otherwise, unless it's a Tequila mixer. Oh, and it has to be the real sugar MD variety. And the Squirt option if you want something a bit more bitter, is sometimes good, too. And in case this brand wasn't listed, Agavales rocks for taste and price, and no nasty hangovers.

tequila and me...

i need to really only stick to clear liquors. (and tequila altogether, not even blanca)

turns me into a monster, it's uncanny...

i can drink good vodka's and good rums all day..... whiskey it's a risky business.... tequila and watch out, i'm either pinching asses or getting punched/punching others.

It's all about the purity of it. Some Tequila brands give me terrible hangovers and even headaches after binging, others none at all. Usually, it's the blended crap Tequila that a lot of bars use in cheap Margaritas and other mixed drinks that give me hangovers.

I just avoid it I guess, never been a Tequila fan.

Prefer Scotch, Bourbon or Gin if doing heavier stuff myself.

I love Tequila. I think my ice man genes must need it for survival or something. If I had only one type of alcohol, for the rest of my life, it would probably be Tequila. Although, I have a weak spot for good Vodka or Bourbon, too.

There's no real evidence to support that.

1) The biggest thing is that there is often little to no correlation between manufacturing and pricing. Liquor prices are completely artificial, especially with high end liquors like Grey Goose and Patron that are just garden variety cheap crap with really great marketing. The ingredients and manufacturing process in that stuff is no better (and often worse) than the ingredients and manufacturing used in brands that cost 1/5th the price. Super-premium liquors, especially super-premium "white" liquors like vokda, gin and tequila, are a scam.

2) With wine, tannins are a known hangover cause and are highest in wines that are formulated to be aged. And wines that are heavily aged are usually on the higher end of the pricing spectrum which means that heavily aged, very expensive reds can cause worse hangover than cheaper wines.

3) To a lesser degree, the same can be said about dark liquors which tend to rise in price the more they're aged and the more time they spend in the barrel the better the chance to pick up impurities which supposedly intensify hangovers.

The real truth is that vodka and gin are better than dark liquors and dark liquors are better than dark wines. Ideally, the lowest hangover would be with really well filtered and well distilled vodka. But there's no way to tie that to the price tag of the vodka, more expensive most assuredly does NOT mean that it's purer, distilled better or made with higher quality ingredients. With some dark liquors and especially with red wines more expensive could be worse than medium priced. And they all cause hangovers. If you want to minimize the pain the next morning, watching price tags is not the way to do it. Drink less, eat a big fatty meal before drinking, alternate booze with water, etc.

Outside of the specifics of what really causes a hangover/etc, I have found cheap drinks are the ones that will give me a headache (which I rarely get and drink pretty much daily).

They are overpriced. They aren't "subpar." Patron and Grey Goose are still high-end spirits, they just cost a bit more than comparable spirits. It's not like Patron is just Jose Cuervo with a huge markup. If you get a bottle of Patron or Grey Goose, you're spending more than you need to, but you aren't going to end up with something undrinkable.

if you drink Vodka and are a member of a Costco that sells liquor inside, not in a separate attached store, the Kirkland branded vodka is ridiculous for the price. it's a 6 times distilled american made vodka that sells for $14 a handle. it's as good as vodkas that are $30+ just for 750ml. they used to have a Kirkland branded 6x distilled French vodka at like $22 per handle but I haven't seen it at my Costco for a few months now.
