For the longest time I struggled to find something simple, easy and reliable for making a backup of my system, then I tried 'Image for Windows' By Terabyte.

This software is really great and for the price, no one has a better deal, and as one pc geek to another I just wanted to share this with you, because I'm happy I finally found something!

Here's their site and the product:

No offense, but your post reads like an advertisement. It could be the greatest backup utility ever programmed, but I feel like my eyes have been molested by a used car salesman.

I'm actually surprised you don't have the black guy avatar with 1 post.

Well SORRY for molesting your eyes, give a guy a break, LOL...

I was just sharing is all, because a lot of people don't know about this product...

Personally I think it's more trouble then it's worth.

Using Ghost, True Image, or IFW is a simpler solution with just using one OS...

Home users with a workstation and server, hmm well to each his own that thinks they need to be so elaborate they need a server just for backups of their Home pc.

Here's rolling back at ya...

Elaborate? You install Windows Home Server. Add the desired hard drives to the storage pool (by the way whenever you are low on space, just add another HD and it will add to the storage pool.. no such thing as drive letters etc). Setup the users/computers on the network. Configure which drives and files to exclude from each computer and WHS will do an automatic back up of each computer every night There isn't any more configuration after the first setup. WHS backup is as complete as a solution as anything out there, I don't know how simpler you can get really.

Not to mention WHS serves a role as a file server for all files on the network. Among other things.

Yeah, I think WHS is a great product, but overkill for a lot of people....probably most people right now. (also it really needs to act as a media center hub too...otherwise you have to stream files to an extender by proxy through your regular computer anyway...I can't imagine that doesn't affect the extender's performance).

I'd love to have a WHS machine, but the expense and effort totally aren't worth it right now. So the OP's software (along with other products like Acronis, Cobian or XP/Vista's Built-in utilities) fill that void.

So yeah, compared to installing some software, connecting an external HDD and clicking a backup button; parting out and building a computer, installing a headless OS, moving all your files over and then starting the backup process after you've tweaked the settings is rather elaborate.

FYI:

Installing WMP11 on WHS is no problem and has no ill effects. It's media sharing allows streaming of all my media to my PS3

The only reason I mentioned WHS was because of the OP's statement: "For the longest time I struggled to find something simple, easy and reliable for making a backup of my system". You can't deny that WHS has been that since it was released.

WHS is buggy as shit. Goddamn has no one heard of their latest showstopping bug?

Looks like we've got a definitive answer to "How would you change Windows Home Server?" -- make it so it doesn't corrupt data. Microsoft has just posted a Knowledge Base document saying that it's confirmed WHS corrupts various files when saved to the server by certain apps. The bug affects several MS apps, including Money, Outlook 2007, Vista Photo Gallery, Live Photo Gallery, and SyncToy, but it also hits Quicken, Quickbooks, and -- fatally for a media server -- BitTorrent clients. Microsoft says it's working on a fix, but that in the meantime, you should avoid using WHS with these apps.

FYI...Microsoft released PP1 for WHS that fixes that file corruption error. I think that 'buggy as s**t' is a little overboard IMHO. I have been using WHS for over a year (I was an early beta tester) and have never ran into the file corrupt issue with my environment. I had some issues with the system backups failing a few times (while it was in beta) but have had nothing but great experience since the release version.

Mine is a home built WHS...
I have it backing up 4 systems in my house (in case I need to do a bare metal restore).

I have easily setup remote access to my files. The web folders feature I installed is very convenient. I now have a shortcut on the desktop of my office computer that I can quickly open files on my WHS.

I have setup another WHS (HP Media Smart Server) for a customer of mine that runs a home design business. They can access their design files and samples (photos) to show customers when they are at the customers location.

There is much more you can do with it thanks to a supported Add-in community...I haven't even tapped into the media streaming function of it yet.

If you just want to backup your computers at a low cost and very little setup then the external hard drive and imaging software (like TrueImage) is what I would recommend.
