I have to agree with you. I own one too and use it with my laptop and the Artec T14A HDTV tuner (usb) while I'm on the road. The antenna is too directional and you need to move it for different channel's best reception.
I however, am tempting to buy this one for use with my other tv sets at home.

I've been thinking about putting the DB-2 in my attic (same price):

DB2

Not trying to crap on your thread...but anyone have any experience with either of these antennas? I've got an HDTV wonder but the supplied antenna doesn't cut it (looks just like a silver sensor though).

I have the wineguard sharpshooter, exactly the same as this terk antenna and I get all the major local networks without a problem. I live about 30 miles from the broadcasting stations. If you're considering OTA HD, then definitely give this thing a try. It worked the best for me out of probably 10 others.

I have the db2 and live about 15-20 miles to the towers and have no trouble picking up broadcasts. I like the fact that it is small and very easy to mount and picks up quite well. If you live further away you can always look at the DB-4. I found an open box deal at SolidSignal when I was looking for mine.

I live about 25 miles away from the transmitters and the HT Guys say the Silver Sensor is supposed to be good to around 20 miles.

Anybody got any complaints about that Terrestrial Digital DB2?

I'm getting the Winegard version of this. The Silver Sensor is about the flimsiest piece of trash I've ever owned, and I had two of them. Very poor quality and easily breakable.

I currently have a Terk model which looks a lot like the Silver Sensor. Very, very directional. The Winegard is supposed to have multipath rejection characteristics on its side. We shall see. I'll report back. I'm in the NYC area, and multipath is a fact of life here.

I take these test sites with a grain of salt, anyway. Measured test results don't always make for real world results. I'm a licensed GC Ham Op, btw.

Silver Sensor works 70 miles away from transmitters for me, perfectly at that. SS is easily the best indoor HDTV antenna, and it's the cheapest as well.

I've tried a crap load of digital antennas. The Silver Sensor was by far the best with almost 100% on all channels. Funny thing is, it's the cheapest. I live 28 miles away from Mount Wilson (LA area).

NO doubt, good timing. I recently ebay'd the Zenith Silver Sensor, but it's not here yet. If it's not enough, I'll go with one of these next.

I'm only 7 miles from the antenna farm, but in a low area surrounded by a lot of large old brick buildings. I guess we'll see...

Are you talking 70 miles over flat land? Maybe. I can't get crap with a Silver Sensor and I'm about 25 miles south of the towers.

Not to crap on your thread,I live in a tough signal area and screwed around with several Terk antennas.

Even a DB2 on a bad day will outperform the Terk. If you need a little more range a DB4 (or a Lacrossefor more money) will beat anything from Terk.

The Silver Sensor is not a bad antenna either, its basically a styleized log periodic UHF antenna. But there can be inherent problems getting UHF reception from a small indoor antenna, since UHF signals are more likely to be weakened by building materals. Statistically, an outdoor (or attic) mounted antenna should yield the best results.

Just remember that calling an antenna a "HDTV antenna" is usually just an excuse to markup an antenna for mucho $$$.

yup. i don't think there is really an "HDTV antenna." I read this somewhere and to test it out, I plugged in an old $10 radioshack antenna that i was using with my tube tv into my new HDTV. guess what? Picked up practically every HDTV station.

A HDTV antenna is simply a UHF antenna. I simply trimmed my old VHF antenna in my attic to UHF size using tin snips and it works great.

new to the antenna chat, but do these antennae need to be pointing out a window if mounted inside? or are they just mounted anywhere on a wall or something?

mines just sitting behind my tv. but from my understanding, knowing which direction to point your antenna can give you better results.
