ps. Its "Annihilation" not 4nnhilation (no such movie exists).

I thought this movie was called Salvation?

I'm guessing the OP was just playing with words but he's right. The movie was really awful. I understand them trying to re-capture some of that character-driven elements of the previous movies (when I say previous I mean just 1, and 2) but if your script and director fail it's not going to work.

I was trying to play with words a little bit, as I feel it put the final killing spike in the poor milked out terminator tit. It was certainly no Salvation (which I think the majority agrees with).

Also it is the fourth movie and I thought I'd be clever and pull the 4/A switch.

Also, I can say with conviction that the First two movies rank as some of the greatest movies I have ever seen.

Don't watch many movies at all, do you?

Have you watched the first two terminators? They are truly great action/scary (sorta) movies. Growing up they were some of the sweetest movies in the world. As far as action movies go, they are second to none.

They are pretty universally respected and loved, especially T2.

It wasn't T3 bad. As I said, there were some redeeming qualities.

Skipped most of the thread since I haven't seen it yet. Going to be Friday or Saturday event. Hopes are pretty low since the reviews mostly say it blows, and they cancelled TSCC, so fuck them.

LOL at all the people thinking this would be a great movie just because of Christian Bale.

They really need to stop kicking a dead horse. It seems 5 is already in development and McG is atleast tied to it as a producer, if not director as well.

My biggest problem: Skynet set the worst trap ever. Seriously. Not to mention they have the absolute worst base defenses ever. Weren't they at war? How does the enemy just sneak in? Why did they pass up so many opportunities to kill John Conner? Seriously, wasn't that the point? Would a cold calculating machine really just pass up the opportunity just to see if their diabolic plan worked?

Oh man, the chip that controls their super infiltrating human-machine is easily accessible and destroyable. WTF?

Finally. Wasn't the terminator made as a unit to get into the bases and destroy? It was a stealth weapon so to speak. Why did they unleash their newest model as the key piece of the trap? Did he really need to be camouflaged as human? And jesus christ, why didn't Conner say something when it turned out to be his former father figure?

Usually I am not one to pick a movie apart, but when it is that bad you just kind of have to do it. I could go on and on. It was just bad story telling and horrible twists.
I will say I did enjoy the throw back scenes. I loved watching the terminator walk up the steel grate steps. I lol'ed when Young Reese said "Come with me if you want to live". There was some good stuff, too bad the rest just fell to pieces.

EDIT:With that said, I am going to bed. Hate on if you must. Throw some mud if you agree. I will continue in the A.M.

It wasn't great. Definitely better than T3.

But as to the highlighted point. Skynet can't kill John Connor. Not to say it won't try, but Skynet's very existence is dependent on the existence of Connor, and vice versa. Without the pieces recovered from the T-800 in the first movie, Cyberdyne never builds Skynet, Judgement Day never happens. Skynet's mere existence proclaims the fact that Connor survives whatever it throws at him. What would be cool is, if the sequel to Salvation is set immediately after Kyle is sent back in time. Anything after that point is completely unknown.

I just got back from seeing it tonight. I think everyone, as usual, needs to quit taking movies so personally. It was a great action flick, lots of explosions and great sound effects. Yes, the story needed a lot of work, and some things were ignorant. **SPOILER** Like when the doctor on the screen sat there and explained everything to Marcus. It was completely pointless, and was obvious the only way the simple minded writers could figure out to explain what was going on.

But whatever, I still enjoyed the movie. Hopefully they'll do right by the blu-ray transfer, I'm looking forward to turning this up on my home theater.

Not true. Think about the first movie. Skynet eventually becomes aware and there is no one to lead the resistance.

I thought it was a good movie.

Certainly had some plot holes, but they were no where nearly as bad as Star Trek and its messy plot.

Did the scene with Marcus and the doctor remind anyone of the scene with Neo and the architect in the 2nd Matrix film? It is the whole "let me explain things to the idiots in the audience" speech. Would have been better for Marcus to learn his fate via searching the computer in the same way he learned other stuff. Learns who he is and what his job was, but rejects that idea and goes off to save Conner.

I do agree with heart part at the end was stupid. Save Conner and keep Marcus around for another film, I liked his character. Why kill him?? Other than to offer him a second chance etc etc.

Why are there always things on fire in a post apocalyptic world??

Walking through LA all that stuff burning?? WTH? Who started those fires and wouldn't they all burn out with a few days etc etc.

Must be some rule in movie making that says 'Things must burn to make it look real."

Hahahahaha, I was thinking the same thing when Marcus is first walking through LA and before he meets up with Kyle. I'm thinking to myself, "Why the hell is shit still burning??"

Thanks for the spoilers. Being better than T3 is not saying much as pretty much anything would be better. I had no plans to see this movie as I have become a not-so-much fan of Christian Bale, especially after his childish outbursts (at one of his own directors) during the filming of the movie. His anger issues, especially with hitting his own family definitely turn me away.

Looking for plot holes in the 4th installment of a sci-fi series involving time travel? There's a challenge. Yeah, T4 was pretty bad, and by pretty bad, I mean essentially awful. If not for the pretty awesome action scenes and big booms, it would be absolutely painful to watch. On the bright side, the dude who played Marcus Wright was an infinitely better actor than Christian Bale (not saying much?). Rather than add my own personal rants regarding the absurd continuity issues I'll just link this:

Cracked: Top 5 Reasons Terminator.. blah. Hilarious.

Also, for those who have seen the movie.. what did you guys think the deal with the "old lady" was? It really seemed to me that they were trying to apply some significance to her, or perhaps insinuating that she was Sarah Connor (you know, even though she was supposed to be dead). She perked up at the gas station when she heard Kyle's name .. she perked up when she heard John Connor's name near the end.. and she got way too much face time for a random flat stock character.

Just came back from seeing it. Wow. It didn't suck ass. However...

There was no cohesion. It kinda felt like I was watching random action clips from some fictional world. There were two or three storylines being swapped around for the first hour or so, and it wasn't fluid. Marcus, Kyle and Blair (plus the kid) were the only ones that I gave a shit about, and they still weren't well developed characters. They wasted Christian Bale, all he did was yell, and he sounded exactly like in his infamous "outburst".

Don't get me wrong, I liked it overall, and would pay to see it again. But it just seems like a lot of wasted potential. Although some of it could have been fixed with better direction, most of it was probably in the writing. And lastly, is the soundtrack empty cause I barely heard any music.

Eff them for cancelling TSCC. Couldn't help but be reminded of the show during the brawling. No phased plasma rifles in 40-watt range yet?

Honestly, they took the only dramatic parts from the movie for the trailer.

Edit: Major continuity error at beginning. Terminator pulls off Bale's boot, then it's magically back on after he kills it.

I liked it.

but...

Christian Bale kinda sucked. would have been a lot better without Batman pretending to be John Connor.

I actually forgot about the sound track. I have to admit, I did really enjoy hearing a little Alice in Chains.
