HI, I recently bought an opteron144 and an8-e motherboard from monarch, and I can't get any overclock over 210mhz bus speed, i tried my CPU, ram ,PSU, with my friends DFI ultra-D and I got up to 315Mhz bus speed without any problems.

SO my problem is that I sent an email to monarch's support department stating my story and they responded with:

"Overclocking is not something that is supported,
and doing so voids your
warranty through both us and the part
manufacturers

Thanks,
Benjamin
Monarch Computer Technical Support
"

What can I do? As far as I know, only CPU warranty is void with OCing. Motherboard companies even encourage OCing, and use it as one of their selling points.

Hi, I am quite disappointed in your response, I know that the processor's warranty is void with the overclock, but one of asus's selling points and advertisments(on the box and on their website http://usa.asus.com/products4.aspx?l1=3&l2=15&l3=171&model=455&modelmenu=1) is their NOS automatic overclocking feature, and their precision tweaker feature, I've read throughout the whole manual and warranty information from asus, and there is nothing that states that overclocking will void the warranty of the motherboard. So what can you do to help me? I can tell you what I want, I want to return this board for a new one, or a DFI Ultra-D (I know of course that I will need to pay more for this one)

SO em I infact right about this or i'm just shooting smoke?

Thanks in advance

The merchandise works within its advertized normal operating parameters, doesn't it? Overclocking is INDIVIDUAL luck of draw with your INDIVIDUAL set of components. Results vary from zero to insane.

Monarch's answer is a polite way of saying "bad luck". You have no case as long as it's working at 200 MHz base clock, which from your post appears to be the case.

I agree with peter! But post your full specs and setting here and maybe someone can help, I have a hard time believing that board limits you to 210mhz

opteron 144 CAB2E
Asus A8N-E bios 1010
2x512 kingmax ddr433
dynex 500watt PSU
radeon x1900xtx

I had the memory dividers all the way down to 333, and 266, so I know it's not the memory, also I tried all of my components with my friends DFI lanparty ultra-D and it worked all the way up to 315Mhz FSB. With this motherboard anything over 210mhz doesn't work, even the onboard NOS overclocking feature (which OCs 10%) enabled will not go past the bios screen, so I'm thinking since one of the features doesn't work on it then I'm entitled for some support from Monarch.

I also read on AT that Monarch ships refurbished boards with their CPU/mobo combos, so that might also be a reason why this board is having trouble

Well I have to say. You should know better than to tell the place you bought it from that youre overclocking lol..... Dont you know that ANY overclocking on any computer part voids the warranty? Just cause some mobo manufactures may encourage ocing, it still voids the warranty. Overclocking is ALWAYS YMMV. You never tell a store or manufacturer that it wont overclock like you want. You will get the same response every time. Of course, its near impossible to tell if youve done ocing on a motherboard but....

Monarch only has to guarantee it works at stock. Its not their problem. You could try contacting Asus I suppose.

Also, its not necessarily the motherboard. Different bios settings, and memory etc etc plays a role. Something could be holding it back.

Monarch is doing exactly what they should be doing. Dont' blame them. Instead you should concentrate on settings of your OC.

just to give an update, I e-mailed asus support and they were more than happy to RMA the board because of no overclockability. Monarch refused to even exchange it or RMA it.

So in my book: Asus 1, Monarch 0

I told them the NOS which is an Asus overclocking feature that overclocks 10% wasn't working (which it wasn't) and they were more than happy to give me an RMA number. So I didn't do it for no reason, I also asked them what they thought it was from and they said that some of their boards have reported faulty bios chips, which would be the main cause for the problem

just to give an update, I recieved the mobo back from asus today, with a replaced bios chip. Got my opty 144 to boot at 333Mhz at 2T 1.55 volts. It's running perfectly stable at 2.7ghz at 1.45 volts at 1T, with 266 dividers for the memory.

I have an 64x2 3800+ with the A8N-E and I have been able to O/C to 2400mhz with the CPU....to get to the 2400mhz ...used 333mhz...right now I have it at 2320mhz with 400mhz setting. I have had a good experiences with this board as it has been able to do everything that I have wanted...probably yours is just one of the few that dont o/c well. Hopefully you can get one that will O/C well for you.

Sure that it's the same board that you sent/that's the only change?
If it was that easy why didn't they just mail you the BIOS chip?...

Did you disable the floppy? Heard A8N-Es don't take kindly to that.

Heidfirst: Most people will screw up the swap and require the whole thing to be sent anyway.

For the record I bought a 7800GTX from monarch 2 weeks ago, I think they sent me a damaged/ refurb or something. The plate was bent (that connects to case)- and 2 screws were on the bottom of the plastic ontainer it came in.

I saw where they went and put them back.. card is acting flakey a little too.. I wonder what I should do? I never dealt with monarch before. I did NOT purchase their BS 50 dollar warranty.
