A domestic terror plot aimed at “multiple targets” in Southern California was disrupted by federal and local law enforcement agencies, sources told the Los Angeles Times on Monday.
One man, described as a U.S. military veteran, was caught in an online sting operation and arrested by the FBI, according to law enforcement officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the case with the media.

2. Undercover befriends target
3. Undercover suggest then provides plan for the plot
4. FBI provides logistics for the plot
5. When subject shows up they arrest them.

Too many of them were the FBI concocting the entire thing and swaying some loaner\loser to carry it out.

Just reading the first couple of paragraphs in the link makes me believe this will play out like other thwarted plots.

I can't argue with you on this one. The supposed Earth First! bomb plot was mostly FBI agents.

I agree. A lot of these cases develop this way, and it's usually a thin line where you either influence someone in that situation towards the light, or towards the dark. Specifically targeting a troubled individual, perhaps temporarily casting about towards the path of violence, simply in order to arrest them, isn't really good law enforcement. They develop these cases for months or even years, up to the point where they agree to receive dummy weapons or explosives for a plot that they didn't organize or plan, and are then arrested.

It's shaky at best--though I can certainly understand that identifying and preventing such real attacks before they happen is always very difficult work, primarily luck-based, and yet you would probably never know if you are right. No one will ever remember you for stopping the thing that never happened.

Sure I understand that. But the point is there have been too many of these guys where they had no plans to attack until our security agencies got involved. So are our security agencies thwarting real threats or creating them to justify their existence?
