I would assume the truck to have a much larger battery. Other than that, I don't know what to expect, Ford is keeping it all very hush hush. If the price point is a hundred grand, I won't be getting one, the ROI would be about eleven years, with all of the tax advantages used up in the first five.

Well, I mean... even the Cybertruck likely has a far larger battery than the normal cars. (The 2020 Roadster is much smaller/lighter and is slated for up to 500 miles.) However, even with that, efficiency is still important. Batteries are a rather hefty part of the vehicle, and having to tack on more weight (more batteries) due to inefficiency is just exacerbating the problem (since adding weight hurts efficiency more).

That's why I'd be more worried about Ford's platform. They have a strong start given the popularity of the F150, but it seems like their EV initiatives are understandably behind Tesla's. (I mean... that's kind of expected.)

620-mile range on the 2020 Roadster!

All of them have to stand up to the utility vs price test. I won't buy any electric because it's cool, it has to work and the the cost of ownership over ten years has to be near equal.
Unfortunately, I'm not motivated by what drives the majority of the market, so I always end up being somewhat disappointed by what's available.

I'm not Crazy about the styling, at all, but I think it's plenty of truck for the majority of "Truck" owners out there. It won't work for me as currently over 30% of the miles on my F150 are from towing longer distances (500mile + round trips) and my 6.5' box is already too short. Ideally I'd like to see SOMEONE build a Plug-in Hybrid where the hybrid system will propel the truck 80-100 miles for daily driving. F150 with a 2.0 ecoboost + 100hp electric motor would be ideal for someone like me and have similar acceleration to my current 5.0L coyote.

Not only that, but towing really eats up the battery range on electric vehicles:

Unless you have destination charging, it would be a hassle - and even if you did, it would be a pain to tow & charge because you'd have to figure out how to get your car into the charging spot without blocking everyone else with your RV/boat/trailer/whatever.

At least if you were towing an RV you could probably use the campsite hook ups. But you'd have to pick, AC in the camper or battery in the car. Seems like towing a boat out of town is probably really out of the question without charging at the ramp.

Yeah, I looked at a Supercharger station today. It has a bunch of normal parking spots, so no way are you charging and towing at the same time without being a d$%k.

so when you tow you can not leave your boat in the large parking spot to the side it must stay attached to your truck at all times? i dont understand, unhitch it charge up and go. yea charging sucks and adds time but towing stuff isnt usually a race type scenario.

wow 2020 roadster i want one so much! i must resist as i would most likely be in jail within 1 month of purchase.

Yes, unhitching would be your only option at the station I went to. It's in a mall parking lot, so I don't know how that would go over.
I'm with you on the roadster. I love it, but the wife wouldn't go for it. I nearly had a had a heart attack when she was ok with the Cybertruck.

Based on the charging stations around me unhitching would have to be the only solution. I wonder if Tesla starts making special charging stations for vehicles with trailers?

I think a pull-through design would be ideal, or for smaller lots, like a parallel-parking version with marker lines so you could pull up your boat or trailer & not hog the tarmac.

My wife has already stated that she's stealing my Cybertruck. We were planning on getting a Y first, but we may end up with 2 Cybertrucks at this point haha! Fortunately she pays for her car & I pay for mine, and I've already calculated with the fuel-cost savings that I'll make out pretty decent on my end. I'm hoping they come with the Maxwell million-mile battery technology, because it would be awesome if the Cybertruck is the last car I'll have to buy in my lifetime lol. I think Musk is making a battery announcement in April, so we should know more in a few months!

Will it come with a front camera to improve safety with regards to the huge frontal blindspots that large vehicles have? It's quite a serious issue for anyone operating a large vehicle where pedestrians are present.

It's an issue with toddlers walking the streets and drivers 5'4" and shorter.

For everyone who says it is Fugly -- that is just jealousy talking!!

As someone who pre-ordered the Cybertruck...it's frickin' ugly man

The design has grown on me, but I also have a penchant for weird cars like Beetles, Deloreans, Kia Souls, etc.

I think it's the baddest vehicle ever. Baddest as in coolest. Look at this front. Does the Cybertruck front and light not look like Iron Man face and eyes? This is like driving something made by Tony Stark from the Marvel Iron Man movies. It's insane, and I love it.

Musk looks like he cant see crap out of that! No wonder he runs into stuff in car parks in it!
