I think I made reference to DA earlier

My mistake, then. This thread has accumulated some 12 pages, and I may only have read the first few posts and the last few.

YOU deserve the credit, Bro! Personally, I think that Jan Michael Vincent was about the same grade in acting as Gary Busey. His best, in my opinion, was "The Mechanic" wherein he was cast with Charles Bronson.

Me too, but I'm getting old. If he can get me to my 600 mile trip, and all I have to do is watch, then I'm in.

same. I like driving...sometimes. most of the times it's the worst thing. It's also something that no humans should be allowed to do anymore, because we are all observably incapable of doing it responsibly. It's a systems problem that ants solved hundreds of millions of years ago. we will never be better than ants, so time to let the robots do it properly.

yeah, well you don't have the same distances that we have in the US. That's like a trip to the grocery store for us.
That's still about 10 hours stuck in a small metal box no matter what country you live in!

I'd rather be in a bigger metal box that either gets me there quicker or one that offers me a beer, a bed and a loo!

Ah been warped by the rain,
Driven by the snow . .
Ah'm drunk and dirty, don't ya know,
But I'm willin' . . . . to keep on movin' . . . .

Ah was out on the road, late last night,
Saw my pretty Alice in every head light,
Alice . . . . Dallas Alice . . .

Well, I been from Tucson to Tucumcari . . . Tehachapi to Tonopah-ah-ahh . . .
Driven every type of rig that's ever been ma-a-ade . . .
Driven the back roads so I wouldn't get wei-ei-ghed.
And if ya give me -- weed, whites and wine . .
And ya show me a sign . .
I'll be willin' . . . ta keep on mov-in' . .

Trains aren't all that popular in the US. They pulled up all the rails around here in CA. Now we're building a moderate speed rail line from nowhere to nowhere (a couple hundred miles) at a cost of a thousand dollars an inch (hyperbole, I don't know the exact figure, but's several vast fortunes more than it should be).

I used to drive 800 miles on-way (about 12 hours) all the time. I'd have one 20 minutes stop right in the middle, always at the same gas station that was almost perfectly in the middle. I really don't mind driving on the open highway, can't stand traffic, though. I'd much rather have a train to work than across the country, but alas, we get neither.

Yeah. A huge part of the problem is infrastructure costs about 3x in the US than Europe per mile. Not sure how it handled elsewhere, but I know ROW issues always take forever and cost a lot.

Coolest picture of Cybertruck yet! Cybertruck on the road with SpaceX building and Falcon 9 rocket in the background. Model 3 is not bad either. I get a feeling of hope when I look at this picture. What a time to be alive!

breakdown of manufacturing costs for the cybertruck exoframe (why it is flat and pointy).

given that the side openings for the doors defeat any gains for the triangular profile, i dont think the sharp peak is actually necessary.

I'm thinking the Cybertruck will be built in Texas. He changed his location on the Twitter handle to Austin, TX. And SpaceX has launch site in south Texas. Cybertruck is supposed to use the same cold pressed stainless steel as SpaceX Starship rocket so it would make sense to be near it. Exciting stuff. Texas sells lot of trucks. Could be big market for Cybertruck.

Last night, Elon tweeted this strange message.

But often, Elon's tweets have hidden message. Poteet, Texas, is the strawberry capital of Texas. Elon is hinting the next US Gigafactory will be built in Poteet, Texas. And this is where the Cybertrucks will be built.
I didn't think it possible, but twitter is worse than ATOT. The responses to his tweet. Yikes!

Related topic. The UK gov has said that they want to ban the sale of petrol/diesel vehicles by 2035.

What sort of power source is going to work for that?
I cant see how EVs can work for everyone. How do you charge one if you only have on street parking?
All I can see here is hydrogen making a bit of an inroads. It can use the same fueling infrastructure as regular ICE vehicles and you can get your 400 mile range in a 5 minute fuel stop.
What's the great advantage of batteries over fuel cells?

We need to think about how we set up our towns and cities to reduce reliance on personal automobiles. And we need to think about where to place charging infrastructure. You don't need individual EV "gas stations" - look into setting stuff up in places where you already have parking and people spending decent amounts of time: office parking lots, grocery store lots, etc...
